Fattedd reacted to Sebastian in 33% more FPS in BF1 on SSD vs HDD!?
Well now I've finally had the time to do a bit of testing, and I can say that I saw a negligible difference in framerates for both Overwatch and Battlefield 1. I'm using a core i5 4670K @ 4.2 GHz (sad, I know haha), and a GTX 1080 Founder's Edition, with 8 GB of RAM. I tested both games at max settings at 1440p.

Luckily, however, there WERE two good things to come out of this. First of all, since I tested the games on HDD first, and SSD second, both games are now gonna stay on the SSD, since I DID obviously notice a big improvement in loading times. Second, during my testing I noticed that ticking the "epic" preset in Overwatch caused the game to automatically set my resolution scale to 122%, which corresponds to around 42% more pixels. When I manually changed this to 100%, my average fps went from the 90-100 fps range up to the 135-145 fps range. Hooray!

I recommend for all you Overwatch players out there that you take a quick look in your graphical settings to see if the game automatically applied a >100% resolution scale.

It will. It will behave like any other monitor, apart for the Freesync/G-sync part not being used.

As far as I know you can still use the monitor, but the frames won't adaptively sync.
I am not aware of any drawbacks apart from that...

The worst thing is when people ask you to build them a computer.
Everytime I talk to them and think about suitable hardware. Then I proceed to qoute them a price of the finished build, after which (and this has happened several times) they tell me they have decided to pick something cheaper.

In the end they tell me it's not as fast as they thought it would be...

You could check if your cpu/gpu is running hot on the laptop.

If they are, try cleaning the laptop intake with a can of compressed air. Most of the time this will do the trick.

Yeah I was planning on going with a 4690K but when comparing prices between packages of mobo, ram and cpu, the 6600K was only 8€ more than the 4690K package so I'll go with that.

Your article is fine. I think he did not take the time to compare this post with the sources. You are perfectly within the guidelines, and the way you space the material, and hide the bulk in spoilers makes it easier to read. People that complain without providing proper criticism are not worth pleasing anyways.

Fattedd reacted to CommandMan7 in Do AMD components really run hotter? If so why?
AMD runs hotter than Intel, in general, due to the fact that Intel just took 14 nm mainstream while AMD is still on 28 nm. If you don't know what that means, that's essentially the size of each component in the processor. Bigger size equals bigger resistance, therefore more waste heat generated.

AMD runs hotter than Nvidia, in general, due to Nvidia's ability to leverage it's much larger research and development budget to create more complex, but more efficient technology. For example, AMD's 390 graphics card uses a 512-bit memory interface. Nvidia's closest competitor (at the moment), the 970, uses half, at 256-bits, as well as utilizing memory compression technologies in order to keep a similar level of performance.

I'd put it like this; Graphics cards are like trucks & fuel efficiency.
AMD is like General Motors - big, simple V8 engines working at a lower RPM to produce considerable power. (5.3L V8 engine with 383 foot-pounds of torque)
Nvidia is like Ford - smaller V6 engines with turbo's and fancy transmissions in order to produce similar power. (2.7 L V6 engine with 375 foot pounds of torque)
The conclusion is that although one company can have nearly double statistics (AMD and GM), the other company can match real world output by use of advanced technologies (Nvidia and Ford).

I hope so too.. It would be very good for the consumer at least.

But I'm not expecting AMD to suddenly overtake the CPU market and compete with Intel once again. I'm expecting something similar to the Fury X launch to be honest..

Fattedd reacted to Quido in Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition
    Intro
The Blackwidow Tournament Edition is the TKL (|Ten Keyless) version of the popular Blackwidow. Razer removed the Cherry switches from the keyboard for an alternative mechanical switch made in China that are cheaper to manufacture so the overall product cost is brought down. Is this trade off worth it? A simple answer would be yes but let's dive into the deep end to find out more about the product.

    Packaging and Build
As we have come to know already the Razer packaging is pretty much like an Apple product, which is to say that it is beautifully laid out and makes it feel like you bought a premium item which this certainly is. Inside the box you find another box (as Razer always do), a nice protective pouch, manuals, a removable braided cable and the keyboards itself. The keyboard doesn't look like anything special, it is the basic UK layout with a nice Razer logo at the bottom which lights up in the vivid green. After further inspection you see a kind of weird looking '@' symbol and the letter 'r' not being a capital, they don't affect the typing experience but it is a little niggle for someone that wants everything to look alike. Although, after a few days I had forgotten this existed as who looks at the keyboard when they type anyway. Since we are looking at the exterior, let's talk about the build quality. This keyboard is very sturdy, a shake or bend test did nothing, no creaks and no funny noises. I even went onto another level by dropping it from around 1ft onto the feet and nothing. This is a really good selling point due to this keyboard being targeted at the travelling gamer. Also another word on those feet, they have rubber on the bottom to stop the keyboard from slipping and even if you don't want to use the feet there are 5 rubber pads to prevent it as well, this is a big plus.

    Razer Green Switches and features
This is the most important part of the keyboard, how it feels to type on. Personally, I haven't used another mechanical keyboard before but I have felt the switches for a couple of minutes (just bear this in mind when I compare them). They closely resemble the Cherry MX blue swtiches in the way they feel and the amount of noise they make, they are quite loud so if you use it around people it will annoy them unless they love the sound. That's pretty much it, they are nearly the same of MX blues but just from a different manufacture making the keyboard cheaper overall, it is a good trade if you ask me. I won't get into the detailed specifications of the actuation point or the many millions of key presses as I can't really compare the actuation point and can't make an accurate judgement on how long the switches will last.
Ok let's get onto the features. This keyboard is TKL so it is missing the number pad which hasn't been missed by me since I got this keyboard. It has media keys across the top and with a hold of the function key you can mute, decrease or increase the volume. You can also pause/play, skip track or go back. F9 holds the key for a macro which works quite well and allows you speed up certain commands which take long to type in various different games. F10 holds the gaming key which locks the windows key so you can't accidentally press it and get thrown out of your game.

    Conclusion
Well, that is pretty much it. This keyboard is very solid and is prefect for someone will a smaller desk or someone that travels a lot with a laptop and they want to use it as an external keyboard. The key switch change that Razer has gone with was a bold move and I think it has paid off very well allowing them to decrease the cost of their keyboards whilst still keeping the same quality. I hope to see other manufactures going with this as well. I would rate this a solid 9/10. Also thank you to Razer for sending me this keyboard to review.
