But the i5 probably doesn't fit OP's budget, right?

Thank you guys! Only 10% is not enough when paying 75 euros.

I'll save my money and get an i5 I think.

Hello everyone!

I currently own a FM2-A55M-E33 with an a8 7600 processor and a MSI r9 270x GPU.

Additionally, I have a Hyper TX3 EVO cooler for my CPU.

My simple question is; would it be wise to upgrade to a Amd athlon x4 860k?

The performance increase is about 10% for €75,-, which sounds great.

Additionally, I could also save this money and invest it in my next build. However, I don't know when I'll build the next one.

Please help me decide.

| GPU: MSI GTX 970 | CPU: Intel i5 4460 | PSU: Sharkoon 500Watt 80-plus semi-modular | RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 2x4GB |

If you can save more, you can get an i3 6100. Generally, single-threaded performance of any Intel CPU is exponentially better than any AMD CPU

Nothing to see here ;)

While I agree, the i3 6100 will struggle in modern games. i5 is really recommended.

True, but for that he would also need a new motherboard and (maybe) new ram.

Still I'd say this is the better option.

The i3-6100 is a beast for it's price.

Also, 10% really isn't that much. The difference (for example) between 25 to 28 FPS is barely noticeable, and that is the range where it is the most noticable.

Thanks! I was thinking about doing so too. But then I would need a new Mobo (50,-) CPU (125,-) and new RAM (40,-) (unless I buy a DDR3 Mobo) which is more like 200+ euros.

So consider this as the last upgrade for this PC, would it be worth it?

You can get a Haswell i5 - they're very cheap now...

Nothing to see here ;)

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/bPX2FT/asrock-motherboard-h110mdvsd3

just 60$ + 120 for cpu (i3-6100 with DDR3 board)

Edit: RAM is kinda dirt cheap so I'd invest some more and go for ddr4.

A Haswell i5 is perfectly compatible with the rest of your system.

i5-4440 (around $170): http://pcpartpicker.com/product/Qs9KHx/intel-cpu-bx80646i54440

If you're going to upgrade anyway, better upgrade to something significantly worthwhile...

Nothing to see here ;)

He's gonna build a new rig anyway, he'd better save all the mobo and RAM money for that!
