hello i use to fold on my laptop and now at idle the fan sound like a hair dryer (not really but it is loud).is something wrong with it? thanks!

How hot is the CPU running?

You could check if your cpu/gpu is running hot on the laptop.

 

If they are, try cleaning the laptop intake with a can of compressed air. Most of the time this will do the trick.

because i was trying it out before i bought a folding rig.

Laptops don't like Folding. It's not good for them, they're not bulit to handle those workloads for extended periods of time.

i went to staples and they only had compressed gas

you might be able to fix them by taking the fans out and oiling them, but you might have to get a whole new fan assembly if they are beyond repair

I would try to disassemble the laptop and lube the bearings. if this does not help, then you probably need a new fan.
