A dollar. Just charge a dollar. Charge $50 or $60 for the official emulator (Game Boy to GBC; GBA to DS; NES to SNES; N64; GameCube; Wii to WiiU).

I GUARANTEE that I will put down at least a few hundred the day of release. Hell, without the games I would put down $300 just for the emulation software.

Protecting your IP is one thing, but denying access to something that is no longer produced is another. That's my opinion.

It's not, it's a site that's primarily used to host indie games. Games that, until recently, either would not have been allowed on steam or would not have been able to penetrate that market.

It's not even a thing. Bethesda is doing what publishers have done for ages, which is just make up bullshit on the fly and anticipate that the ignorant masses will assume the publisher knows what they're talking about / has magical law-making powers.

What Bethesda is claiming is a arrogant psychopathic fantasy, and Bethesda can't do shit. Pete Hines on Twitter tried to falsely equate "new" with meaning "officially licensed reseller", but that's absurdity with no relation to reality.

Games that have been sold to people are not Bethesda's for them to decide how they may or may not be sold. They are exclusively the property of whoever has bought them. Bethesda holds as much authority over an incorrectly-described resale listing for one of their published games as they do over an incorrectly-described listing of a musical instrument or some camera.

    Their argument is ridiculous.

LITERALLY ALL used items lack warranty (well, there are some exceptions where the factory/manufacturers warranty is transferable, but it's not common outside of say, cars).

So by selling a used item, which has no warranty, it's no different whether that's a book, a video game, a movie, or a computer.

I do not support Bethesda here. I actually would like a charitable organization to fund and provide legal assistance to Mr. Hupp (Leonard French, maybe?) - Bethesda needs to be challenged in court here, so we can set a legal precedence against them.

I would love to hear Pete's version of events then. Has be explained why we are "misunderstanding" this?

Bethesda looks at Disney as a role model it would seem. Oh well. I'm already steering clear from EA & Activision games, I disagree with their actions, ideology and treatment towards consumers and refuse to support them. Bethesda just made that list. Shame that companies are behaving like this.

*Speaking from experience as I've put in like 400 hours into ESO*
ESO isn't that bad for microtransactions, it's all cosmetic and everything is so easily obtained. I've completed the game like 3 times now, ESO:L is the worser one in this imho.

Sounds like their legal department was bored and needed something to do. There are few things that would make me boycott a company, but behavior like this is certainly one of them.

I don't celebrate my birthday, I don't really like attention, I do attend to some birthday parties but I don't celebrate mine. I only treat myself with something that I really want to buy with my saved money, but I don't want everybody's attention.
What I don't understand is when celebrate birthday and hope for long life, that makes me sad to be honest because clearly my life becomes shorter.

Some of Case Labs stuff would have been hit; some would not have been. (The Tariff run actually affects petroleum products a lot more.) It's 25% Import tax, but that usually translates to about a 10% end-user cost increase. They also *haven't gone into effect yet*.

The real problem would appear to them being an extremely fragile company. They lost 1 account and their production costs go up 80% from a 25% tariff that isn't active yet. This means a lot of bad decisions were made over time, and they simply got crunched by events when they weren't stable enough to handle them. One could also say that their business model required production cost arbitrage out of China.

This won't be the last company to go under like this, but it also explains why this is happening. The entire Cost Structure of some of these industries is based off getting products at prices that aren't actually viable for the industry. China has been one Recession away from causing this chain of events anyway, it's just being kicked off by the USA.

I never pre-order a game digitally, until recently and found out you need to pay full price. But I've done a few pre-orders at GameStop and the minimum you have to pay is at little as $5 bucks. This guarantees that you will get a copy and whatever bonus stuffs it comes with, depending on the edition you buy. When the game has officially launch, all you need to do is bring in your receipt, and pay off the rest.

They could just offer all the older games for sale or as a mega bundle for $60 (say all the classics or something as one big pack), that'd be easy and safe, and people would buy that. But instead they like to make them unavailable, then complain when people make them available through other means. Pretty retarded but I guess companies just hate their old games now?

Yep. Kinda don't mind piracy in this instance. Like the only game I haven't paid for or gotten for free from some official means is the original Battlefront from 2004. Since you can't buy it any more (other than a second hand disc off eBay that I wouldn't trust), there's really no alternative other than downloading it when someone dumps it on the internet. If they'd just offer an official means to get the games, MOST people would buy them. I doubt there's that many actual hardcore pirates compared to the droves that would shower money on game devs if they released their favorite classics. I mean, GoG seems to do well and most of what they sell are classics or indie titles.

For sure, in reality this will not stop a single pirated game, and in reality it could lead to more piracy. Things like this, and pay walls for tv shows drive people to learn how to pirate, and once they pirate what they were originally looking for they aren't going to stop their, they are going to begin to pirate everything else. That's how this works. Companies complain about piracy and not making money, and their solutions almost always drive people to learn how to pirate...

This really is a stupid situation, the main reason emulation even exists is because of titles no longer available for purchase, and being able to play them when and how you want. IF nintendo would make their own pc virtual console they have their own money printing machine.

Popular ROM site Emuparadise, known for being a safe way to get ROMs since 2000, now removed all downloadable ROMs in fears of 'disastrous consequences'.

founder MasJ is clear that they'll continue being the #1 emulation site, but he has strong doubts that they'll be a source of downloading games in the future

While they do not state Nintendo being the reason for this change, it is definitely a possibility. In addition the distribution and download of ROMs is technically illegal, they wouldn't want to risk trying in court. However, this is a huge blow to the emulation community, as Emuparadise has been a pretty easy and safe way to obtain ROMs for a long time. Such a loss of a source will mean a harder times for people to play and preserve their favorite games of old

edit: also sorry if this isn't appropriate, just thought it was interesting as it is showing up in tech news sites
