Pretty simlpe idea, just have a message below the comment box that, for example says

 

@Crunchy Dragon, @seoz, @TopHatProductions115, @OrbitalBuzzsaw and 2 others are typing

 

or

 

@iamdarkmortis is typing

 

or

 

@DarkBuzzsaw and @OrbitalBuzzsaw are typing

 

Be really useful on threads with a lot of activity

No. Need as it already shows who's viewing the post. Although it doesn't say who's typing.

I'll vote nay. Having the "Recently Browsing" box is all that's needed.

I say no, there's no real use to others if they see that I'm typing a reply.

 

I do however like the idea of an indication of who is typing a reply because I've had instances where I'm typing thinking nobody else is typing and we both happen to write the same answer milliseconds apart from each other.

 

... Edit, this is kind of contradictory. I'm on the fence at this point.

My counter-concept to this one would be having an indicator that shows how many are typing in the post creator for a certain thread. This would let the original poster know if there are others making replies and possibly help for other users to focus on questions on threads which are given less attention to. Maybe have a ranking system that shows less popular overall topics and promote them more than maybe already solved questions. I would assume that this forum has a lot of computational resources dedicated to it to the extent that an additional feature/s would not cause any noticeable slow down at all.

Currently viewing is already really resource hungry feature. I rather have as snappy forum as possible, rather than something which is more cosmetic than practical.

 

Btw, derailing in your own suggestion thread takes quite a bit off from serious counter.

In that case what you should do is shorten the time the names stay there to like 2 minutes
