Senzelian got a reaction from Mateyyy in NVidia RTX 3000 AIB-Partner Designs
They've all gone weird since the 10 series imo.
I miss the "good old days" with the 700 and 900 series.
When ASUS had good looking cards with utterly massive heatpipes:
EVGA's Kingpin card with a copper heatsink and a super clean design:
Or how about these really clean and simple looking 780Tis from Palit?

I thought I list all the custom RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 cards that I've found so far.
Couldn't find such a topic on the forum yet.
Interestingly enough it seems that none of the cards use the new power connector and instead rely on 2x 8-pin connectors.
Also it seems that a lot of them, if not all, have their 3rd fan blow air through the fins and out the backplate.
If I had to choose one, just based on their design, I would buy the ASUS TUF. It seems to have the least amount of RGB and funky angles.
What do you guys think?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around how massive these things will be.
GPU sag will be at an all time high and Linus won't be able to wrap his hands around one at all. He'll need two hands to pick one up.

Personally I think I like the ASUS Strix or Zotac Gaming Trinity the most.
But don't forget EVGA's cards, because that's 5 more designs too: https://www.evga.com/articles/01434/evga-geforce-rtx-30-series/ (the RTX 3090 has all five design, 3080 has four designs, 3070 has two). The XC3 design looks design; but I dislike the non-centered middle fan on the FTW3 cards.

Senzelian reacted to MaximumBubbleMods in Spirit of Motion - Scratchbuild Log
Who else is happy about this long weekend?!
So that back of the grill had some tails that needed to be cut off now that the shaping is all done. I started by putting a little tape on the back plate to protect it slightly. I grabbed a reciprocating saw, threw a couple drops of oil on the blade and chopped the pieces off as close to the backplate as I could.
The vibrations of the saw broke one of the little welds on a grill unfortunately. With the hours of grinding, sanding, sawing, ect. I've definitely learned that small aluminum welds are not really as strong as you would hope.
I started grinding what was left off with a rough fiber wheel on the grinder.
I was a little discouraged at the welds being less strong than I hoped and the one that was now broken. These welds to the backplate are where all the force of the grill hangs from the grill is opened. So they need to be well attached so this lasts a very long time.
I made the choice to screw them to the back plate. Using some nice looking M3, black, button head cap screws to be exact. I marked out the center points to start.
Now most of these were welded so I had to drill through the grills and backplate together with my 2.5mm drill (the one for tapping M3 threads) I then came back with a 3.5mm drill and drilled through only the grills so that I was only tapping the backplate. I then ran my M3 tap through all the holes in the backplate.
I put my screws in and like how it looks a lot! Kind of gives your eye something to stop on when you look down the length of the grill.

Even better would be to put it in the top of the case.
But yes, flipping it around would be better, but not necessary.
I guess you watched Gamer's Nexus' video about the topic, otherwise the question would probably not come up.
In there everyting is well explained.

Of course you should expect a 3080Ti, no matter what.
But that doesn't matter. Either you need a 3080 / 3090 now and buy one, or you don't.

Senzelian reacted to GoodBytes in Nvidia 30 Series unveiled - RTX 3080 2x faster than 2080 for $699
I am just teasing you.. but you can wait a few months. Looking at Amazon price tracking computer components tend to drop late December, before Charismas in any case.
Well it is a long story, but essentially I was not happy with my PC (Core i7 930 6GB of RAM), and by the time I had money to replace it to my liking, there was nothing compelling on the market, then I was busy with university to be able to really game, so I just hold off. I was playing games when I could on my game console. That hold me. But yes, I'll be buying a new system once the new AMD CPUs are out (it would be silly to buy now, it would be like those who just bought the 2080Ti before the 3000 series announcement)
As for money savings... technically you are correct. But the Canadian currency went to the toilet at the same time. Before, it was like "add 30-50$ per part from US pricing, and you are good", now "Ouuuuuuu! $699!... wait.. that is.. $950 Canadian!!!". A good 30% + round up to the second digit to get nice numbers.. so for example: 730$ is 750$. So my savings doesn't get far. Not to mention price hikes form CPU and GPUs. Before you can build a nice gaming system for 1.5k. Now, 2k-2.5k for a gaming system.
Oh, and all that is before taxes! Because in Canada, like in the US, the taxes aren't included in the price. You get the surprise at the cash register or checkout page. And when you swallow after seeing the price, everyone around you start laughing at you... Eeeeviiillll laugh... ok I made that part out.

Nvidia has 2 options:
3080 with 20GB 3090 with less VRAM, say: 12GB I think Nvidia will be holding out on these cards, as a reply for AMD, if their GPUs end up being competitive.
If AMD GPU is a disappointment, expect nothing to be released by Nvidia.

Senzelian reacted to porina in Nvidia 30 Series unveiled - RTX 3080 2x faster than 2080 for $699
Not sure I can quickly find the rumour again, but it was a "later" card.
Edit: found it: https://wccftech.com/exclusive-nvidia-ampere-graphics-cards-partial-specs-and-tentative-launch-schedule/
Now we know the names, the rumour puts the regular 3090 and 3070 as 2H Sept., and 3080 as mid-Sept. High ram 3080 was 1H Oct. Compare this to what we currently know: 3080 17 Sept, 3090 24 Sept, 3070 Oct ??. If the high ram 3080 version is going to happen, I wouldn't count on it until late Oct at best.
