100% agree on ASUS being crap. Back in 2017, I RMA'd a Rampage VI Extreme as it would freeze in bios before posting. I paid for shipping ect... They claimed they couldn't reproduce the issue and sent me the same dead board back.
They claimed it had to be my ram. So I swapped the ram for testing.
Then they claimed the PSU. I bought a new PSU.
Then they claimed the CPU, I tested another and same issue.
Finally, they agreed to do another RMA. Which big shock, they found the board didn't work. Turns out they don't actually test the boards when you RMA them. They just use a few probe points, they don't even bother to boot the board before claiming it works. Oh and the turn around time is 10-15 business days each time.

I am a computer engineer. You will be using the school servers a lot as the software for a lot of this stuff is $$$. Also, generating bitstreams for fpgas is cpu bound. But, I only started using my own rig around my 3rd year when they let us each have fpgas.

Unless you're components are pegged at 100C for hours at a time and you can actually get the liquid to raise to that level, you're not going to have any issues.
The temperature of the water will be a good bit lower than the component temps and will equalize at a certain point as well. So unless you're doing something like running an FX series processor, overclocked, with several Fiji based GPUs also overclocked on a single 120mm rad then that won't happen

You'll be alright with PETG, it's been the common go to over say acrylic due to it's ease of use and forgiveness. It's melting point is way higher than what your fluid temps will ever reach within the loop, and a good metric is your fluid shouldn't ever get past 60C due t the pumps sake for longevity.

went to the Team MLG Event in liverpool Uk this weekend and di some LN2 overclocking. We got 120L of Ln2 between 5 of us. 2/3 people had never done ln2 benching before and so it was great to show some people how to prepare the board and how to pour ln2

Firstly one of our newest team members came for his first meet and ln2 session he brought a 7700K and a Asus z170 impact with some b die memory from teamgroup. he also had a gtx970 and a gtx1080ti, however he only benched the cpu on ln2 using my pot which i lent him.

Firstly he benched a socket 775 system with a q9550 and e8500 just on a corsair h80i as he did not have a pot of his own. I helped him a little to try and improve his scores on those chips, but with limited cooling they could no be pushed very high. Still got a few decent scores.

Once i had finished failing to bench my 1800X and getting 1 whole score in about 2 hours i let him borrow my pot. He managed to get upto 6.6ghz validation and ran a number of 2d and 3d benchmarks at over 6ghz!

Next we had one of our newer members who has used ln2 before, but still started extreme oc quite recently and this was his first meet. He had previously benched an FX8320 at over 7ghz

for the meet he brought along his well insulated gigabyte gaming board and a few cpu's including a sempron 145, FX4300 and phenom ii x2 550. he was not messing around and went to max out the speed of all of his cpus over the first day and didnt sleep all night!
he got 5ghz on the sempron with a single core
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3624954_

7.75ghz on the FX4300!!!!!!!! making it the fastest FX4300 in the world
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3625197_

he also got a very high speed with his phenom ii x2 but has beaten it just a day or 2 later at over 6ghz

Another member who had never used ln2 before came as well, he has been benching on air and water for a long time but thought he would try something a bit more extreme for the first time with other team members who had used ln2 before.

He started by insulating his 990fx sabertooth with plans to run hius first ln2 session on an fx6300 which he has had to 5.2ghz on water cooling.

he used some LET around the top half of the motherboard and some vas around the areas he couldnt paint the LET on.

then the fx6300 went in, the ln2 flowed and out came lots of very good scores for a first time ln2 session

with a little help from me and Lee ( the guy with the FX4300) he managed to get a first score on ln2 ever of 7.65ghz!!!!
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3624587_
then he ran a few more benchmarks as well

    cinebench r15@6.32ghz
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3624748_
    and wprime 32m @6.35ghz
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3625194_

He also had a little go with a few of his gpus on the i9 7900X we had set up under water.
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3625279_

Gav, who's office the meet was held at had some really back luck on ln2 failing to get a score at all on his 7350k with his apex which was kind of dead, so he spent most of the time messing around with the 7900X and a few gpus as well.

Someone from the reddit oc team /r/overclocking also came for a few hours to have a go on ln2. he brought some MITX Apu system but he still managed to get it to run faster on LN2!

    Finally my scores........

I start with my ryzen 1800X which went very badly managed to only get 1 mildly ok score at 4.938ghz but my memory still isnt working at all under LN2 so i really need to get that sorted

    http://hwbot.org/submission/3624734_

then after that failure i moved onto my e8600 which i brought and i managed to put it in the wrong motherboard

i did manage to get a cinebench r15 score but it was only at 5.743ghz and i couldnt really go much higher.
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3626237_

one the second day after almost everyone had gone home, i decided to rerun the e8600 in the correct board and this time i managed to get some decent scores out of it.

max frequency of 6.387ghz validation. i managed to get 6.4ghz on the screen 3 times but the damn thing crashed saving the file every time
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3626247_
    Pifast at 6.156ghz
    http://hwbot.org/submission/3626258_

    http://hwbot.org/submission/3626254_

then we seriously started to run ln2 on the final dewar as this was late on the 2nd day so i just ran as many things as i could at 5.9ghz

Future proofing is not a thing. Don't feel bad because new things come out. I bought a 1080 a month before 1080ti, and 680 1 or 2 months before 780. I initially regretted the 680 purchase but i was happy with it performed so I stopped regretting purchase
