This is not meant to be a comparison of the intel/AMD offerings, I'm just curious what most of you do with your big multi thread processors... for research. xD

Could be strictly a workstation/server or your rig at home.

Gaming. haha. Just kidding.

 

Currently my Xeon is a severe overkill NAS CPU. I usually use it for rendering, but I'm waiting for GPU prices to chill out before getting two GPUs again. It's also my workstation when my PC (2700K) can't handle it. I usually do content creation and programming (currently app and game dev).

 

I love to overclock and all, but I have to admit, the Xeon CPUs are way easier to keep cool. Expensive, but you do save power.
