    JJR10 reacted to LinusTech in Robert Hallock: 'Vast Majority of DX12 Titles In 2015/2016 Are Partnering With AMD'
    I fail to see how this matters at all. It's been years since an AMD-optimized title ran any worse on a green video card..

    If you were to tell me all the DX12 titles in 2016 are TWIMTBP then this might be notable because AMD graphics card users might not be able to take advantage of proprietary stuff like hardware PhysX or Hairworks or whatever..

    edit: side note.. does NVIDIA even call it The Way It's Meant To Be Played anymore?

    JJR10 reacted to Belmire in G-Sync has a big flaw that nobody is talking about
    I've spent about 4 days with the Rog Swift from Asus (144hz, Gsync, 1440p). Running a single 980 for now (second on the way). I've tried a bunch of first person shooters (BF3, BF4, Crysis 3, Crysis 2, Wolfenstien, etc...) and I've not had a single issue with input lag. Everything is liquid smooth and the mouse feels like I have vsync off. The experience has been nothing but positive.

    Gsync was made to work at variable frame rates. If you're already maxing out your non-gsync 60hz monitor and switch to a gsync 60hz monitor at the same resolution, it's completely useless. A 4k 60hz gsync monitor would make much more sense than a 1080p 60hz gsync monitor since you'll be hovering around 30 to 50fps at such a high resolution (depending on quality settings and video cards).

    I don't have another gsync monitor to compare it to but the Asus Rog Swift is a crazy monitor and I don't regret forking over a wheel-barrel full of cash for it. Not for a second.

    JJR10 got a reaction from Eugenio Martinez in Corsair 450D(mid tower) or Enthoo pro (Full Tower)
    I was actually considering the 450D for my current system since I really liked the look of that case. However, for what I had planned for the future and the fan layout I wanted, the 450D would have been cramped and somewhat limited my choice in PSUs (based on length).

    Then the Enthoo Pro was released and essentially addressed my concerns with space. Since you seem to be concerned about the overall size of the Pro being too large, let me say this: In person the Pro is deceptively small...that is to say that even though it is considered a full tower, it really is not that much larger than the bigger mid towers on the market. To me, the Pro's size doesn't dominate my desk area like I would imagine a Primo or 750D would.

    Keep in mind that with the PSU stealth cover in place, the standard components of an ATX motherboad, single GPU, and air or AIO liquid cooler will fill up the space quite nicely. It definitely will not suffer from empty space syndrome like if you were to assemble the components you have chosen in a 900D.

    Additionally, the overall value of the Pro is just superior with the features it offers for essentially the same price as the 450D. The modularity and modding potential, the airflow, the included fan hub, the array of cable management accessories along with a little tool box for the excess screws - all point to much more compelling value.

    Subjectively, I really like the look of the Pro as well. Personally, I even think it looks better than the 450D.

    It could be a smart move depending how you look at it. For one if you want to go SLI in the future you wont be able to get another 780ti because they are now defunct. Second the 980 is already faster overall than 780ti and that on a brand new architecture with brand new drivers. Once drivers have matured for the 980 it will really become well seasoned and beat the pants off 780ti.

    JJR10 got a reaction from ProKoN in Intel Haswell 4670k + 4770K Overclocking guide
    @ProKoN - Many thanks for putting together this guide for Haswell overclocking. It was very useful and nice to have as I undertook the task of trying bring out more performance out of my newly acquired 4690K (and newly built system).

    I followed the guide step by step, first reading through your instructional posts and then watching all of your videos. Although the videos are quite dry, there was indeed some helpful details within the commentary that applied to me. Aspects of your videos that were not identical to my application, I was able to cross reference the information you went over with other instructional videos such as LTT's Haswell overclocking guides.

    While I would not say that I am exactly new to overclocking or to system building, I wouldn't classify myself as very experienced either. Thanks to this guide, I was able to reach and surpass my overclocking speed with the knowledge that my system is pretty much rock solid stable. Another thing I quite liked was XTU and in particular was the temperature monitoring function within the utility. I noticed that it keeps track of average temperatures which is quite nice as I find that information a good measure of how the overall cooling setup is performing.

    When I first decided on an i5-4690K, my hope was to overclock it to 4.4 to 4.5GHz. I followed your method of finding CPU stability first (something that makes sense to me and something I had done on my past system) and was able to do the following with the VCCIN @ 1.9v, ram @ 1333MHz, and DRAM voltage @ 1.5:

    - 4.4GHz @ 1.25v stable for 8 hours on XTU;
    - 4.6GHz @ 1.3v stable for 8 hours on XTU;
    - 4.7GHz @ 1.35v stable for 8 hours on XTU.

    I had found stability for 4.4 and 4.6 at pretty much the voltage you had outlined. At this point I was tempted to just begin finding the lowest stable voltage for 4.6 but I was curious as to how much more voltage 4.7 would require. Based on your experience with the 4690, I was hoping I could hit 4.7 below 1.4 volts with thermal headroom.

    At first, I tried 1.3 volts for 4.7 hoping that maybe I had an above average CPU but to no avail. I then increased by 0.05 volts and was pleased to find stability. After running the XTU stress test for 8 hours, I decided to see if I could lower the voltage and found I could run 1.346 volts for 8 hours on XTU. However, just shortly after the 8 hour mark, the system restarted. I tried it again but the system restarted not long into the stress test. I raised the voltage to 1.347 and was successfully able to run a 12 hour stress test.

    My Ring Bus result was unfortunately not quite a 1:1 ratio. As per your guide, I tried to get a 1:1 ratio at 1.9 volts VCCIN, 2.0 volts, and then 2.1 volts with no luck. So I set the VCCIN to 2.0 volts and began lowering my Ring Bus ratio and only found stability at the 44x muliplier. I was able to lower the VCCIN to 1.88 and the CPU ring voltage to 1.27 for 8 hours of stability. But I noticed some instability after 8 hours on the CPU ring voltage stability test and through some more testing, found it stable at 1.3 volts for 12 hours.

    I did not have any issues with the XMP profile for my memory and was able to run OCCT's Linpack (no AVX) stress test for 2 hours (on manual voltage mode of course) for an initial stability test since you had indicated that the memory test on XTU was not that intensive. I decided to run the XTU memory test for a full 24 hours for verification of stability of the all the settings. Then just for consistency with the the previous CPU tests, I ran a final 12 hour CPU stress test before declaring everything validated.

    24 hours of XTU memory test with an ambient range of 25 to 27c:

    Final validation - XTU CPU 12 hour test with an ambient range of 23 to 25c:

    I am quite happy with my results and now after a long process of overclocking I am going to enjoy some games.

    TL;DR - Followed ProKoN's guide step by step and was able to achieve 4.7GHz @ 1.347 volts stable over 24 hours using XTU. Thanks to ProKoN for the guide!

    As you have already realized, just stick with the 750ti for a while. Take the budget €250 you mentioned and save up for a higher end card in the future. Like some have mentioned, there will be some new cards coming out in the next few months. So keep an eye out for them and on the prices of the current cards in the market as they are bound to change at some point with the release of newer gen hardware.

    If you are looking for a little more performance, you could try overclocking the 750ti. I have the Gigabyte version and was able to get another 200Mhz out of the core clock. Good for a few more fps at least.
