What chip is it based on? If this 960 OEM is gonna be the 960 Ti, it wouldn't make sense for it to be slower than the 960.

If it was a list of relevancy it would be

Nvidia: 980Ti > 970 > 960 2GB > 950

AMD: Fury X > Fury (> 390X) > 290X ≈ 390 (> 380X) > 290 > 380 > 370 4GB

(imo) The 390X is like the 380X in the way that it's priced weirdly and doesn't perform as well as similarly priced competitors.

The 960 oem literally is the 970m (gm204 cut down). Now they can clock it much higher to beat the 960, but I can't possibly see how the "960ti" is going to be competitive with the 380x.

That's why I said a while ago I didn't see how they could release a competitive Maxwell card in the segment.

Not really, and maybe Im not wording it all correctly because I dont exactly know how to put it.

Nvidia and AMD both released a card for a price/performance range, both knowing what they can charge for a certain amount of power.

Now, there is already an established stacks:

Titan > 980Ti > 980 > 970 > 960 > 950\

Fury X > Fury Nano > Fury > 390X > 390 > 380 > 370 > 360

 

Where Nvidia and AMD are trying to shove the new cards (380X and 960Ti) there is already a card that costs the exact same, or within a handful or dollars, therefore not making sense to really add in the first place. In my opinion AMD should have released a 380X from the start and forgotten about a 380.

 

There is a huge gulf between the 960 and 970's performance, and same for the 380 vs 390. It's weird it has taken this long for either company to put something out targeting the $250 price point.

The cheap R9 290s are getting hard to find unless you want the really loud blowers. The only one below $250 with aftermarket cooling I could find today on pcpartpicker was an HIS IceQx2 on newegg for $230. The next cheapest aftermarket 290 is the XFX DD for $284.

I see where youre coming from now, youre looking at it from the company's point of view, I was talking more or less from the consumer's options. This makes much more sense now.

What Im trying to say is, there is already established product stacks from the green and red teams, we're pretty much as far as it will go for this generation of cards, I cant see it being worth it to put more into the lineups this late into a graphics card generation with already such an established market, the cards youre mentioning were added at the beginning of this generation of cards, these are being added way too late.

There was a huge gap between the 380 and 390, and the 960 and 970. The performance difference between each tier of GPU is usually 10-30% depending on the price gap, but here the gap was around 50%. The 380x brought that gap closer to 35%, and the 960ti should do something similar. (also there weren't any cards worth buying between 200-300 dollars from this generation).

Nope its 3GB! Zotac pretty much confirms it. They have a steam machine with a GTX 960 and 3GB VRAM on 192 bit bus.

The HIS IceQx2 is a good card. I know from personal experience. Not the prettiest, but they perform well and stay fairly cool and quiet.

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I meant it in the sense that cheap R9 290s are in pretty low stock now after being sold at fire sale prices for more than a year now. So I doubt there are enough cheap 290s out there to not make the 960 Ti a compelling product.

Before they locked out oc memory clocks of 7.5-8k were perfectly normal.
