G1 Gaming or Xtreme Gaming?

Hey folks,

im undecided here, which from those 2 versions do i choose, is there any difference?, only in aesthetics, or there is a difference in performance?,

do you know something that i dont?, then tell me, which one is better?, i want your opinion. and im choosing a 970, and i won't consider buying a 390 or 390x instead, cuz personal reasons that i dont want to answer, just answer the g1 or xtreme question please.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken the Extreme editions have the voltage unlocked so you can increase the voltage if you need to when overclocking. Which is something the G1 gaming does not have if I remember correctly. I also think the Extreme cards are generally just supposed to overclock better than the G1 editions. This is just from some research I've done though when the Extreme editions were first introduced.

If you don't mind me asking which maker/card is it that has teh voltage locked? Because I remember reading somewhere that one of the makers had the voltage locked on their cards.

I don't think there's anything wrong with choosing one side over the other if you just like that particular company more.

Its all personal preference.

not when something is cheaper and more powerful though

ok if you are so interested in the reasons,

1.- 390, 390x, takes much power

2.-it gets very hot

3.- the only 390 and 390x i would buy is sapphire

4.- they are more expensive

5.- more money in my electricity bill

and yeah, i know 390 and 390x are better than a 970, but i just want a 970, i could buy a 390 and 390x, but just i dont want to

their less expensive firstly secondly it doesnt get heat so much.

I prefer Nvidia because RadeonPro is garbage and Nvidia Inspector is more flexible. CCC sucks too but so does Nvidias CC but at least Inspector helps :/.

To the question, I wanted answers too. I have the G1 and the voltage is locked at 1.275v. You have to use pencil mod to get 1.3v I think.

well keep on topic, whats the difference between the g1 and xtreme. this is no amd vs nvidia, just same nvidia gpu model comparison.

thanks in advance

1. 390 draws 70W more than a 970, not a significant difference

2. Bullshit, did you even bother checking? The temperatures difference between MSI Gaming versions is like 2 degrees Celsius, it's irrelevant

3. MSI makes great R9 300 series GPUs, they're just as good as Sapphire. Also XFX and PowerColor are pretty decent.

4. Depends on the country, in some the R9 300 series is cheaper.

5. Not really. It's a difference of a lightbulb turned on under a full-load situation. It's also negligible.

The Xtreme version has higher base clocks, an improved cooling solution and better overclocking capabilities. It's just better, if that's what you wanted to hear

The 390 still beats it.

If you're using a custom BIOS to push 1.3v and GPU-Z is only reporting 1.275v it's actually running at 1.3v

I can't remember the exact reasons but GPU-Z doesn't read voltage right over 1.275v but if you used a multimeter you'd see the card running at 1.3v

OP, Xtreme gaming is just a G1 with a slightly newer cooler, better memory chips and better power delivery, all pretty much pointless unless you're going to be overclocking pretty hard. G1 Gaming is still a solid card, so unless you really wanna push the card just go with whichever is cheapest

  • 2 months later...

Omfg this guy has said so many times he does care about the 390 and he just wants to stick with the 970 and didn't want to start a war in the comments.... And what did we end up with.... A war.

Jesus christ.. guys it's pointless arguing about something so meaningless.

As far as I know, as I am using it I am liking my G1 Gaming, the Xtreme only has RGB lighting, probably better overclock and maybe better fans, but it doesn't feel as "quality" as the G1 Gaming, dunno I've seen it IRL, didn't really like it.. so I went with the G1.. it feels alot more .. omff... quality you know :P

I really don't like Gigabyte, but Xtreme gaming, Gigabyte hasn't binned the G1 Gaming cards, instead reserving the best GPU for the Xtreme cards. The G1 Gaming is just the standard Windforce card+backplate.

Trades blows. And you only go with the R9 390 if you need the vRAM.
