what nvidia 980 gpu has no coilwhine

i had a GIGABYTE GV-N980WF3OC-4GD and twice now it had really bad coilwhine so id like to know.

what brand of gtx980 has no colwhine and wich one chould i get.

im personally thinking of getting the msi or assus 980 but at this point i dont really care i just want a card without coilwhine

Gigabyte cards are prone to having coil whine. I know Asus and EVGA cards I have used have never had coil whine.

Although some cards might have a higher chance than others, cool whine is mostly luck of the draw. Any card CAN have it; however usually it is rarer in higher-end complete custom component cards.

My 980 STRIX from Asus hasn't suffered from extreme coil whine. (It has minor coil whine when I pass 200 FPS, otherwise I hear nothing). I haven't really looked at coil whine graphs with GPUs, but I've heard that the STRIX edition has the least coil whine when compared to ACX and Windforce.

There is no guarantee your card won't have coil whine no matter who you buy from.

 

Either learn to live with it, or go through tons of GPU's and try switching power supplies.

its pretty much luck. My old XFX7950 cards had coilwhine when I bough them (used) and I fixed it by blowing a contractor fan into the PC and running folding@home for 36 hours. Silent now.

I have an inno 3d x3 ugly card but it's cooling is a beast. No whine either.

I haven't used the new ACX coolers just the first and it didn't have any so i'm not too sure.

Likely because there isnt much of the power component on your card that causes coil whine/ inductor noise.

I know my old MSI 760 had almost no coil whine while my Phantom 580 had a lot. But i guess the Phantom coolers have changed. BTW the MSI one was a Twin Frozr

All graphics cards may or may not have coil whine. It's on a unit-by-unit basis, you can't make a list of which models have coil whine and which don't.

Vsync and staying away from current gigabyte iterations (which are super documented with above average coil whine.) will eliminate most coil whine issues.
