Guess I'll be going for DDR4 for my next major upgrade.

Until we get 4Ghz DDR4 kits at these prices, it doesn't seem all that exciting.

Its not really cheaper. Close ish. 1600/1866 ddr3 is around 5 dollars a gig in the US, where ddr4 is around 7-8 dollars a gig.

So if by almost you mean 50% difference than sure.

And yes I know part of that is due to ddr3 prices tanking really hard as well.

When I built my computer a year and 2 months ago it was the same price so yeah I guess it is cheap or just relative. But the MOBOs man those are cray cray!

About 1-2 years ago I bought 2x 32GB DDR3 kits to fill up my slots, and that was about $700!  Now I can get 128GB kits for just a wee bit more, I'd say we're at 1:1 pricing on the low end.

Jesus, just a few months ago it was almost twice as much. Well, shit, considering I just built my PC....

A 16gb kit is still about 20-60€ more expensive where i live...

It may be if you're buying a Z170 motherboard and the price comes down enough. Though the performance difference is marginal at best, especially for a gaming system.

 

Something I don't see a lot of people mentioning is the rumor that Skylake will support DDR4 and DDR3L. DDR3L is low-power, 1.35 V DDR3, which makes sense because DDR4 is also generally 1.2–1.35 V. If that's true, I'm unsure if current 1.5 V DDR3 will be safe to use. I don't want to burn out an IMC.
