OP assumes Nvidia has good drivers, yet doesnt seem to bother mentioning Nvidia drivers causing massive headaches for the past 3 months for many users. Or if OP is truly oblivious, he can just search "Nvidia drivers" within the GPU subforum and tech support forum, and he will see a mountain of threads about current Nvidia drivers being iffy.

 

But hey, lets ignore that part, lets just pretend Nvidia drivers are special snowflakes, like if lord GabeN himself had blessed them prior to release.

I did have 1 issues with their drivers while using Google Chrome on Windows so I uninstalled Chrome... (used it and driver crashes for no reason...)

 

After looking it up the 970 drivers + Chrome does not mix... (could be fixed now but I am not sure...)

 

Except that one thing I have had no issues with Nvidia drivers!

Nvidia and AMD both have great performance and then there is things that greatly make one card better for one user of the other. As a power user myself AMD is better, but as a bencher Nvidia flys ahead quite fast. AMD's compute performance is still higher then Nvidia's for cheaper and they are offering more VRAM for cheaper which people that run workstations can find a reason to get say a R9 390/390x and not a quadro or a firepro. Nvidia's drivers are currently in a state of dissary as far as stability goes as the same with AMD, but AMD is improving with drivers but they still have a bit to go to get things solid. Games are still running better in most cases on Nvidia GPU's and AMD is 1-15FPS behind depending on the title.

I can say yes and no to that. I noticed that the overclocking headroom on my 580 dropped almost 140Mhz with latest drivers but yet I'm still getting almost 20% more performance then I was with the older drivers I used for it. While with my 780 Classy its all over the place.

I actually noticed a 5% performance improvement with 15.7 over here. 3D mark score (by boost clock doesn't work here idk why) went from 5950 to 6150. About 3-5% if I actually had my boost clock (damn you 3D mark!)

As for memory, I cannot remember the numbers on top of my head and while I do agree that 4 gigs is a bit low, @ 1080p and 1440p it should really be no problem as stated by reviewers but I may be wrong. Haven't tried it therefore I cannot say for sure.

As for drivers

I always have a conversation; it's the only way to get anywhere. I'm just really blunt .

 

For 1080p and 1440p it shouldn't give any problems in most games, but above that it can definitely be a limiter (especially if you have more than one card or something and want to crank up the multisample AA etc). It just isn't a "4k card" for a hardcore gamer who plays various games.

 

I must be thinking of mobile drivers, then. 6990M and such. It may be different for desktops but it still annoyed me that people got shafted a couple years after owning something. But for desktops it really may be a non-issue, I guess.

Lol, yeah. Both sides have their issues and instead of arguing, we should all hope to have an even market cause competition is what ends up bringing us the best products.

Remember the glory days of the Phenom II? Intel was giving us 20% performance improvements left right and center.

And Nvidia can't just "double" their prices. They set the prices on how much the customers are willing to pay too

Hell yeah, I also love how each and every one of them "forgets" that AMD cards actually turn off when idling so as to save as much power as possible but no, "Zero Core" technology doesn't exist to them.
