FX8350 "bottlenecking" my system in GTA? No change in FPS w/ Resolution change.

Hey all

 

So I decided to test out if I could squeeze more frames out of my system while playing GTA V. 

 

I get around 40-55FPS at 1440p on normal settings. But when I bump my monitor and game down to 1080p, it is still running at 40-55fps with absolutely no changes at all. 

 

My 290 is overclocked and all that under a custom loop so I dont want to think its my GPU thats causing issues. My 8350 is at its stock speeds and in the past when i tried OC'ing the CPU and play GTA it would crash the game but not in other games.

@LaboonTheWhale try 1.36v or 1.38v and 4.4 or 4.5Ghz see how that runs , then set Load Line to Medium and then check the voltage in CPU-Z to see if it jumps or is higher then 1.36 / 1.38v

Last time I checked FC4 never ran on a dual core Pentium and the 8350 with mantle is par with the 4690k in BF..

This is the classic case of having a better ipc and lower clock speed is still far better than a potato ipc at 5 billion gigahertz.

That's probably a GPU driver issue. They had day 1 beta drivers for GTA V from both AMD and Nvidia

The bottleneck becomes less noticable at higher resolutions because the gpu is stressed more. A 8350 will be a bottleneck at 1080p for a 290.

The bottleneck becomes less noticable at higher resolutions because the gpu is stressed more. A 8350 will be a bottleneck at 1080p for a 290.

but Its also the same FPS at 1440p and I have my 290 OC'd as far as it'll go under water so I dont think thats the issue at high resolutions.

No he is right. You get same fps no matter what graphics settings because gpu is never fully used anyway, it's processor limited.

Well it was also no fun for the buddies I knew who had AMD cards also the game is same crappy game I got to 360 long ago so I know it sucks. WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN!

amd cards did worse, but not that bad either. 360 problem could be solved by you not having a 360.

Also GTA V favors Nvidia cards over AMD quite a lot, must be down to AMDs rubbish game driver optimazations.

Of course, you're beating a dead horse, the AMD FX even when running at 4.6ghz is still very slow when compared to even low end modern haswell core i5 CPU...in fact those chips have never done good in games, even at launch they where much slower than sandy-bridge, even something like the 3.4ghz core i5-2400 play games better than an overclocked FX' and so does an haswell core i3 for example.

I owned an FX-8320@4.6ghz, i upgraded from it only 3 months after i bought it, and now i sleep better at night.
