CPU Upgrade?

Hey guys,

I am planning to upgrade my GPU to an AMD R9 380, and I was wondering if it would benefit me if I also upgraded the CPU while I was at it. I am running an AMD FX 4130 at 4.1ghz now, and if I bought a FX 6300 would there be any performance increase in games such as Just Cause 2 and AC4, or should I just save up for a better CPU later and just get the GPU for now?

Thanks

No, you could buy a 8350, but then you'd be better off buying an i5 4460.

^^^^ The R9 380 is only slightly better than the 7950, I'd recommend a i5 4440/4460 and a cheap board :)

That GPU upgrade is barely an upgrade.

And the FX 6300 is barely an upgrade over the 4310 in gaming.

Keep your GPU and upgrade motherboard and CPU eventually.

How much of a performance boost would I be getting from a CPU upgrade like a 8350 compared to a GPU upgrade?(Im using a GTX 650 ti now)

you mean barely better than 7950, which is true. It's the same card pretty much just lower tdp.

r9 380 is not an upgrade over 7950.

perfect example on how amd is scamming people, 3 generations newer card is barely better even when it does have more vram and is priced fairly high.

If the budget allows, try the 8 core AMD option or go Intel i5.

AMD sixcore over AMD quadcore isn't that big of an improvement for the money that you spend on it.

//edit R9 380 over 7950 isn't really worth the money either. R9 380 is based on the 7950, with some minor improvements. By the time that directX 12 makes a difference you could've saved up for a much better card probably.

Using 650 ti right now, sorry about the signature again.

Sadly, i have no experience with AMD 8 cores, so i can't comment on that.

I do however, have (had) FX4300 and FX6100. Then i went to intel socket 1150, bought a Pentium g3258 which felt waaaaay faster than the FX6100 but couldn't run Dragon Age (it's dual core), so i bought a i5 4670. The i5 is in turn quite a bit faster as the G3258.

I also went from a HD6790 to a 280x later. that was less an impressive improvement to me as the CPU. But it was also needed to run the games more smooth.

HD6790 is in the same league as a 650ti i think. My 280x (gigabyte windforce) beats a 380.

So in my opinion, if you need to choose, choose CPU first, then save up for GPU. Especially since the 1150 socket is on the end of it's life and therefore prices are OK, while the R9 380 is brand new and will drop in price later.

If you are willing, look at second hand i5 processors+motherboards. Any i5 3xxxK or any i5 4xxx will be a lot faster than the FX4130
