Why haven't they made an 8GB version of the GTX 970?

Vozella

Edit: New question. Why can't they remove the last ram and replace it with a full gig ram?

Inb4 "It can't even handle the full 4GB, why would it need 3.5GB? xDDD lel"

I don't know. I assume it's something about either making the 980 viable or to do with the graphics chip.

They haven't made a 8GB version of the 980 too..

The 970 can't even handle four GBs.

That was quite a good burn actually :P

That's the point I'm making lol. Obviously it has four GBs but it can't handle it at full speed.

The ram is fine it is the memory interface, that is a cut down version of what you will find on the 980, that can't handle four GBs at normal speed.

Not all cards need it though :P

I'm certain it has to do with restrictions from NVIDIA. The GTX 780 6GB didn't exist until the end of its life, to make the original Titan a little more relevant.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Why are you asking for source? When the last part of the VRAM is used with the rest, it slows down to match that slow ram. (I hope that makes sense.)

I don't see I'd need a source for that because I'm making the exact same point as you are. Unless you believe that it's 3.5 Gb of fast memory + 0.5 of different slow Vram.)If that is the case go read PCPer's article about it. )

The idea is that it's the GPU that can't get access to that last 0,5 gb of RAM, not just adding more ram/changing it would help.

If I remember right there was a reason why the GTX 670/680 had a bit of controversy on the techy side, with the 4gb on some cards thing .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

as you see you put a bracket inside a bracket therefore it needs to be a double bracket at the start, just and FYI.
