Is it worth getting a Z97 board for an i5 4460?

So I am thinking of getting a Z97 board for an i5-4460 to upgrade to Broadwell on the next year or two. Is it worth it? Or should I just get an H97 board for cheaper?

If you plan on getting an 5th gen cpu or get an unlocked cpu later on for sure, then you can get it. (honestly i wouldnt get a z board for a 4460 even if you plan on upgrading because you can upgrade the motherboard then.) if i were you, i would get an asus h97 mobo because i think asus allows oc on Hxx chipsets as well as the z chipsets. save some money in the process for other parts

If you want SLI, yes. If you want Crossfire, H boards will do that.

Well I would spend more getting a 5th gen chip and a new mobo than getting a Z97 and a 5th gen chip. Plus I don't want to do the hassle of re-downloading windows or anything like that.

There are numerous guides on the internet that you can use to upgrade motherboard. You can just move the hdd over and re do the serial key (contact microsoft)

The point of a z board is for overclocking. You can get a H board if you don't have an unlocked cpu but i'm pretty sure if you are going to get a 5th gen cpu, an H board will still support it, you just need to update the bios or something, similar to the haswell refresh.

If you are really picky and this is your firsst build or something, maybe wait for  broadwell/skylake?

That's true. I think I am better off with an H-board.

Lol. Just one more question. Is it worth getting an AMD card because H97 boards don't support SLI, as I am going to get another GPU later.

Yes, but PLS WAIT! The new AMD cards are about to come out as we all know and assuming that corssfireX on the new cards require only a minimum of 4X bandwidth then yes, get AMD cards (lol my inner nVIDIA fanboy is killing me xD)

unless you plan on using dual graphics card down the road and you buy a motherboard with SLI support...no it's not.

If you want SLI, yes. If you want Crossfire, H boards will do that.

want to run CrossFire at x16/x4, H97. Want to run it at x8/x8 just like SLI, then Z97.

Some Z97 run it at x16/x4 so not all of them will do x8/x8.

Basically Z97 without OC'ing unless you update the bios which is very fine and it is still worth of getting z97 and also with the SLI in z97.
