Why the 980 ti won't exist

There have been many rumors over the past week or so of the GTX 980 ti, but if you think about it, this card wouldn't make sense, let me explain. So the GTX 980 is $570~ for a standard EVGA, MSI, or Gigabyte card etc.... And more for cards like Gigabyte's G1 gaming, and EVGA's Classified and Kingpin. Now there's also the Titan X at $1,000, the Titan X is faster then the 980, but if you think about it is there enough of a performance difference between the two to need another card to fill that gap? No. That's what cards like the 980 Classified and Kingpin come in. These are the cards that pull a very high overclock to fill in that performance gap. So let's say they did come out with a 980 ti, it would probably be priced around $750 like the 780 ti was. So then what's the point of the Kingpin or Classified if they come out with a GPU that has better performance for around the same price? Then let's say EVGA comes out with 980 ti Classifieds and Kingpins, then with that $150~ extra price premium then it puts them up in that Titan X price point, which then it would make no sense to buy a 980 ti if you can get a Titan X for a little more and have better performance. So that is why I think the 980 ti woun't exist, it doesn't have a performance gap to fill, and it would make the 980 Classified and Kingpin pointless.

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

Not confirmed, and why not just make a 6GB 980?

They will probably make a new naming line up like 985 or something to make it more confusing

Bottom line is that Nvidia needs something to directly compete with the 390 when it comes out. The normal Titan X does not fill that spot, so they are chopping off some of the overkill VRAM and pricing it lower so that it can properly compete against the rival product.

Not just that but production. Sell 10 cookies at $5 each or 5 cookies for $10 each, in the end you still make $50, but selling them at $10 you don't have to make as many to meet consumer demand.

I think it is just common sense to know that Nvidia will release a new gpu after AMD releases their R9 3xx cards. It is nothing but an endless cycle of one company trying to up the other and we should be thankful for that because it gives us better products through competition.

We need a VRAM between the 980s and the titan X. Games already max out the 4gig buffer on the 980s. I would asume that the 980ti would be a cutdown titanI X with 6gigs of VRAM.
