as much as they reduced them to deplete current stock, now they raise them to reinforce the selling point of their new products.......... whenever they get here..... I could have gotten one for about $180 U.S. a short time ago. Time to get them for the right price is when you see them.

especially around the launch of a new line of cards this tends to happen. how is this surprising? they launch at a price they feel is competitive, then the bitcoin craze happened and everyone and their mother was buying amd cards, demand > supply so all amd cards skyrocketed in price. then that passed prices returned to normal. next nvidia launched a new line of cards. no one would have bought 290/290x cards if they didn't drop in price so they did.... then they capitalized on nvidia's bad pr situation. now they are clearing out stock and adjusting prices to be in line with the next series. then the cards are gonna drop in price again just before the next launch.

everything about those price fluctuations makes perfect sense. i don't see why you're so bent out of shape about it.

and vlad... you're making me jelly talking about 2 295x2s. that would be a beast for sure.

This is spot on.

This isn't how capitalism works.

It's not about what it cost to make, it's about what people are willing to pay for it.   As long as the latter is higher than the former, the thing will be made.  If it isn't, then it won't.

With something like GPU's, the material cost/R&D cost difference between a Titan X and a 750Ti is more or less the same, depending on size of the PCB of course.  But very different price points.  The value to the consumer is very different despite similar material and production costs.

I'm still all for cost + 15-25% markup not supply and demand..

that will never happen. if the demand for something exceeds the supply the value of said item goes up far more. imagine if there was only 100 gallons of oil left in the world. do you really think the price of that oil would be cost + 15-25%? that would be a ridiculous price.

I would think it would be worth less since if thats all thats left it would mean that we have moved on

Ever since the launch of the gtx 980/970, the price of the 290/x dropped across the board, and the price of different brands has fluctuated wildly, with different cards taking turns cutting prices and then increasing them. If you have your heart set on a certain card, say a MSI lightning or sapphire tri X and can afford to wait, eventually it will drop in price dramatically for a short time. The only card that has risen and stayed high is the Sapphire vapor X.

This is why I hope AMD stays competitive. Their price to performance ratio is unmatched and even the 970 cant really compete in that department, especially since we discovered its VRAM limitations.

Prices fluctuate a lot, don't expect any graphics card to stay at the same price for too long.
