T-Mobile introduces rollover data

bobhays

I would like to start off by saying I tried to search for this topic but for I can't find the search button. I've used it before but I can't find it so if someone could tell me where it is or if it's missing for everyone?

source: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/tmobile-data-stash,news-20021.html

It's like rollover minutes but with data. The data that you didn't use gets added to your stash which you can then use up to a year after you saved it. This only applies if you have over 3gb of data on your line or if you have a family plan, I imagine most people have family plans anyways to save money.

It takes effect in January 2015 and its free for customers. Everyone starts off with 10gb in their stash and it's per line for a family plan. New customers will also get 10gb when they join.

Pretty cool of T-Mobile to do this, I like what they've been doing lately.

UPDATE:

@Ryou-kun for giving me this link

http://arstechnica.com/business/2014/12/t-mobile-wins-fight-against-att-and-verizon-over-data-roaming-charges/

T-mobile fought that At&t and Verizon are artificially raising roaming charges for smaller competitors and the judge ruled with T-mobile. It doesn't change current prices but it gives them a better chance in court to lower prices.

Probably (IMO) one of the best US carriers.

At my college and home T-mobile coverage is great so its basically the best choice other than verizon but they are about twice the price (no exaggeration at all).

Heard about this today which is pretty sweet, I already did the $100 dual line unlimited everything plan conversion yesterday so I don't need this but it's great for the people that do.

I wonder if it counts for tethering hotspot data that you're given every month?  I don't do tethering as much but it'd be cool to save up some gb's for a download session at the end of the 12 month cycle.

Sweet, now if only they could improve their coverage.

They're working on it. They're getting low-frequency spectrum, all EDGE towers will be upgraded to LTE within a year, and... Well, okay, to be fair they still haven't really announced plans on expanding coverage to more areas, but that probably comes next.

The hotspot thing is... complicated. Basically, since the throttled plans use the same data for both hotspot and normal phone usage, it technically rolls over. For the truly unlimited plan however, there is no rollover for hotspot.

I have the 3GB Plan! Weee!

I usually have 200MB left over. So that will stack up, and I can use it later!

For people who have unlimited but don't use that much data this could be an incentive to save money and still get a great experience.

It's funny how US consumers thankfully cheer and praise their fortunes for being slightly less tortured than before.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

I understand that in a lot of different areas, but I don't think it applies here. T-Mobile has had great deals I've had them for over 5 years and never had an issue with them. 4 lines for $100 and good deals on phones (not flagship ones though). I'm amazed that anyone who doesn't use their phone for business has Verizon or at&t. Especially Verizon which costs SO much more for a bit better coverage. I understand it makes sense when other companies don't have coverage but in cities where all the carriers have relatively similar coverage I don't understand.

And Verizon keeps screwing us.

Might move to T-Mobile sometime next year.

Is the issue lack of 4G, or just a ton of dead zones? If it's the former and you have good EDGE coverage, that should be mostly fixed next year.

I have one street in my city where the 4g coverage is dead. It's really weird because both sides of the street are covered but if you get withing 50 feet of the street the signal drops. Phone signal is fine just no 4g so hopefully that's fixed.
