a HDD conected via thunderbolt to my laptop. How could this get more ghetto?

That's not that ghetto...

 

I do the same thing, but it's using my old iMac G4 in Firewire Disk Mode, and then copying stuff to it from my MacBook.

Now use magnets to attach it to the aluminum chassis of your laptop, those things stick good and secure.

But i agree, not ghetto... just using an HD externaly.

Mine is inside my 300r with a ton of fan adapters. There's a fan in the top going for airflow, and a fan outside the case for me. And it's quieter.

Why not just use Amazon S3? Or Google Drive.

 

Keep your files in encrypted containers and mount them as a normal, locla drive. You will never run out of space or loose files ever again.
