(RUMOR) NVIDIA will reportedly launch its GeForce GTX 990 in early 2015 Read more at http://www.tweaktown.com/news/38953/nvidi

BigEarl

With the GTx 800 series coming out in early and late October, this is really hard to believe. It would break speed records plus,  moving directly from 28nm into 16nm skipping 20nm process completely it will be the most exciting year for GPUs in a very long time if this rumor is true. I still dont think this will happen because of the 800 series coming out in just a few months. What are everyones thoughts on this? Do you think it is true or false?

If they do that it would be absolutely bonkers and I doubt they will.

"Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you." - Jeremy Clarkson

I don't think they would release 2 series of GPUs within several months of each other this quickly.

I'm still expecting the 880 to be released in early 2015

TSMC 16nm is nowhere near volume production capability, lol.  Early 2015 for that is very optimistic.  It wouldn't make sense from a business perspective anyway, NVIDIA will want to milk as much money as possible from the 800 series.  They won't release a successor that quickly.

change 900 series with 800 series in the title, then we have a slightly believable thread. But yeah, the chances of us getting the 900 series early 2015 is not very high

They may do what they did with kepplers, introduce the new cores midway through the 800 series rather than at the start of the 900 series.

Where's their source for this? They said they got it from SemiAccurate. I went there, found nothing.

It's not nvidia's MO. Even if they were ready to launch the 990 in early 2015, they wouldn't, they'd wait at least a year to get as much money as possible from the 880. It only makes sense in business

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - CPU Cooler: Deepcool Castle 240EX - Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO

ill wait for 16/14nm to mature about 1-2 gen's then we can talk,im skipping all the headache i dont even need new gpu until proper 4K monitors with some type of freesync gsync IPS or good TN's at least are out and affordable but ill enjoy that 16nm porn and reviews.

Lol, what if they bring out the 900 series before the 800s xD. End of 2015 they release a less efficient, less powerful and older gen series of cards.

GTX990 would be a dual GPU...
The people that wrote the the article don't even understand the naming scheme.
If anything then it would be a GTX980.

It's taken ages for them to release the 800's, why release the 900's shortly after?
