Mass Effect 1 Worst PC Game I Have Ever Played

RelentlessAF

Hey guys, so don't get me wrong I love every single Mass Effect in the series. So why is ME1 so bad? Well when I played Mass Effect through the first time I originally played the first installment on Xbox then the second and third on PC. Well I recently decided I'd play through the trilogy again but as the same character and changing my play style so I bought the game on Origin.

After I purchased the game I downloaded and installed it. I went to launch the game and... nothing. Nothing at all happened, I tried running as an administrator reinstalling, nothing worked. I looked it up online and it was an issue a lot of people were having where sometimes the full game didn't even download and a few files were missing as well as the version being outdated.

After having to patch the game (from BioWare's website), crack it, and create a pseudo Launcher file the game finally launched. I got through the beginning perfectly fine but then the game started seeming a little odd to me. I couldn't really tell what but I knew it was there. After playing awhile longer I figured it out, most of the controls only worked half of the time, I would attempt to aim and the reticle wouldn't change as well as not even appear on some of my guns. The running was extremely clunky and even seemed like I was going way faster than was originally coded.

The cover mechanics barely functioned and powers didn't even work when I would press them or they would do the same things. For example I pressed my hotkey for the "Throw" power and I suddenly had a shield on me. When I got to thee area at the beginning when you have to defuse the bombs as soon as I would attempt to defuse them my mouse cursor would appear on screen. After completing the action the sensitivity would be completely screwed. At that point I just couldn't play anymore.

I don't know if I can get my money back, I bought the game about 3 days ago but I really feel completely cheated by EA. A similar debacle happened with me purchasing Crysis but that game, after similar practices, functions perfectly fine. It just absolutely baffles me that this could be such an issue if the game would've been on sale on Steam I would have gotten it there instead. At least I'd know my game would actually work.

I've never experienced this with mass effect, but I have had other games that gave me trouble and took hours to fix.

I can understand your frustration, but fixing games ourselves is part of PC gaming whether we like it or not, especially older titles. Your best bet is to contact Origin and see if they will give you a refund.

never played ME1, but I 100% ME3, no real hiccups either. ran smoothly, which is more than most games from origin can say (I'm looking at you BF4!!!)

I didn't have a problem with the other 2 only the first game. 2 and 3 ran perfectly aside from the HUD not scaling in ME3

The problem is that you went to play the game on PC....

It shouldn't be an issue it's extremely lazy to not put as much effort into all of the games releases. The experience shouldn't change based on the platform, that's the first step in being a terrible game dev. You have to treat all platforms equally and with as much care if you want your game to succeed to it's fullest potential.

The entire game is a broken port, just don't bother to try and fix it... :P

It's odd that you had this problem, I bought it and it worked immediately and without issue every time I've played it.

As I remember, ME1 was a terrible port, worse than GTA IV.

It works for some and not for others, I'd say give it a shot and get a refund if it doesn't work. I got a refund for mine.

Despite the ME3, IMO Mass Effect Series is a must play. Though I don't buy on Origin. Buy them on Steam. The key you get from Steam can be redeem on Origin as well.

I was coming into this thread all ready to chew you out for hating on ME1... "you just don't get it, man" or "stop driving around in the Mako and just play the main story and the Citadel side quests... that stuff is way better"... but no. You had to have technical difficulties and say that you actually enjoyed the game originally.

All my arguments... down the drain.

Anywho, I haven't played the series on PC. I'll probably get the whole trilogy at some point. I really love the series.

Well, everything up until the last 15 minutes or so of 3...
