Worth 1440p?

At the moment a 660 but I am building a new computer with wither a 780 or 770.

I was just asking if the step up is really that much better. But now I would like to know How a 770 or 780 performs at that resolution.

Definitely go for a 780. GTX 770 does not fare well for in 1920 x 1200 at some games like Sleeping Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV (yay shitty console port). Plus at higher resolution you could definitely benefit from the extra VRAM from the 780. I believe it is a fairly tangible upgrade to 1440p coming from a 1080p monitor.

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

A 770 is not too bad, but it will struggle with very intensive games.  I have a 680 myself and honestly I did not believe that my AC4 was running too badly, haven't tried Sleeping Dogs yet.  However, I needed to turn stuff down in Far Cry 3.  However, it's better to just spend the money on a 780 since you're thinking of moving up in the resolution world.

And about whether the step up is really that much better...ehhh its debatable.  I honestly think I stepped up to 1440p because I was just sick of TN panels, not so much because of the extra pixels.  However one handy thing is you probably don't need to run any AA above 4x anymore, and you can probably get away with 2x on most games unless its really cheap.

I have no regrets buying my X-Star DP2710. the picture and clarity on it is incredible.

I can definitely notice the benefit from 1080p and 1440p.

Absolutely, I use 2 of the Qnix 27 inch 1440p monitors and I will never go back to 1080p again for gaming or movies.

while the change is noticeable, the cost just doesn't justify that improvement. What justifies 1440p monitors is the high pixel density that you can have with a 27'' monitor. And the fact that they are ips/pls which one its own is a premium feature which you pay extra for on 1080p monitors. Korean 1440p monitors opens up a whole other debate.

I would highly suggest that you upgrade your gpu before going to over to 1440p if you are serious or don't want to game at medium-low settings on AAA titles.

Is it worth going from 1080p to 1440p?

Do you want 1.778x more pixels on one screen? then yes.  It's definitely a really nice experience having so much extra space on one screen, it's nearly 2 1080p's in one, and the details are a bit more crisp in images / in games

This is absurd, it costs exactly extra over what you're getting extra over 1080p.  Unless you're talking about the included price of driving the monitor @ max details.

1440p isn't more expensive than what you're gaining over 1080p..

Most 27 inch 1080p IPS are 250-300$ for a decent brand, and 1440p is ~450-600$ for 1.778x more pixels on the screen.

1920x1080 = 2073600

2560x1440 = 3686400

3686400/2073600 = 1.777777777777778

1.777777777777778* 300 = $533 dollars for 1440p.

The price to performance isn't any different than a 1080p 27 inch monitor with an IPS/PLS screen, especially considering you can get a pb278q for under 500$ sometimes, and HP zr2740w  factory refurbs for 350$

Yes, the difference is like night and day. Whether or not you have the gpu horsepower to run 1440p is another thing. You'll also be upgrading your graphics card(s) more frequently.

Like you said This proves that the cost of a 1440p monitor pixel is not anymore money than a 1080p pixel. This does nothing to support the fact whether a $500 + monitor is really worth it. $500 is a lot of money and so is $300, but just because the price per pixel is the same does not mean that 1440p monitor is not extra money over 1080p. So no my statement is not ABSURB, Your math is cool but doesn't really help. No one ever said 1440p is necessary for enjoyment the extra coin is not necessary to get a perfectly enjoyable experience. I was not considering the extra cost of hardware in my original statement but it is also a factor, unless the buyer is willing to turn down settings to save money on hardware, in which case I would suggest that 1440p should not be on their list of things to upgrade to at that point.

Nowhere did I say he needed one, I simply said if he wants more screen real estate, and crisper images+details then he can.

When I made the switch from 5760x1080 to 1440p, I enjoy it much more, the colors are extremely nice and it's nice having nearly two 1080p in one screen for putting tons of stuff on it at once.

Could he just buy a 24 inch ips 1080p and be fine for 150-200$? Yes, but if he wants more, 1440p is there still.

He said he was looking at a 780 or 770, which can run 1440p fine at high/ ultra no AA.

I know you never said he needed one it was my example, same with the hardware example. Simply an example I was using to prove my point.
