Many community countries claim to be "socialist" tho -_-.

Yeah, but the same way nazi germany was Nationalist Socialist.

They were nationalist china under what a lot of people in China would say was a illegitemate goverment. An authoritarian regime.

That was back when you had multiple chinas and they were all "China" according to themselves.

Somebody in this thread was talking about the "One China" Policy.

Under that policy though only Mainland China and Hong Kong would be considered "China" tho..... and Hong Kong isn't even China China yet lol

Well its kinda bullshit they cant use a Chinese passport to register as China.

While it makes some sence that Taiwan registers as China it is kinda surprising that they cant use a Taiwan passport as it is China.

Feels like China had a hand in it, though it makes more sence to be a accidental misstake caused by the circumstances between each country (within the country? Idk, Taiwan is China and China is also Taiwan... Yes its dumb)

Sort of wierd they didnt have a good workaround for this. I mean they had one, but it doesnt seem to work well....

It's almost certain the Chinese government had a hand in this. This is the same government with uncountable numbers of human rights violations that continue to this day, a government that stamps out any and all dissent, censors the entire internet and blocks any website that dares to mention the fucked up things they have done in the past.

And the rest of the world tolerates them because cheap labor. Now we basically can't do anything about it without willfully destroying our own economies.

That's like saying "it's only a world cup; you can try qualify again next time" because that's what they're missing out on. It's the most important event for these guys and a good run opens up a lot of doors.

It certainly could, but they've waited this long and it's important to persevere. Not to mention all the press on them right now. It's also not a career.

You'll have to explain that one.

Either way, a form dip could happen easily before the next major and then they'll have to wait again. Rinse and repeat.

A career is a more progressive move. A video game is more trendful, like csgo might not be popular in 5 years and then they will have to learn a new game etc. it’s not a reliable income. That’s the difference between video games and real sports.

Its also just another year to have to wait for the next one. Not that they have a choice really, but it’s all about publicity anyway.

CS has existed in one form or another since 99. The pro scene established itself within the first five years and has been getting bigger year over year. Some of the players have tenures spanning more than a decade. In other words: not dissimilar to regular pro athletes. Not to mention the gigs available after retirement.

The progression can very much be seen in their income. No gig in the entertainment industry is reliable. If you can't perform or lose the interest of the audience then you're out. That's part of the job.

Can't imagine you'd be doing it for the rest of your life though.

Nope but can't imagine any professional athlete doing it for the rest of their life either. Some things just have short life spans. Another example would be YouTube and other social media platforms. Some of the biggest earners have totally disappeared while others have remained and some have transitioned to even bigger things. That's the risk/reward with many volatile careers.

I suppose its just different with the new age and generation z and I'm a bit behind. Just seems a lot easier to me to play a video game all day than a real sport like Rugby.

Nope, the US has never ever officially vouched to protect Taiwan. Taiwan is NOT under the nuclear umbrella unlike SK and Japan.

I'm older than gen Z but I grew up with it.

It's pretty difficult to gauge differences in difficulty. Arguably rugby would require a broader skill set due to the physical components. However considering the vast difference in skill between players in any competitive game it's hard to deny that not just anyone can do it; that there isn't something called talent, hard work and dedication.

now? no, but not because of the US blanket. China just isnt ready to conduct a major naval invasion if Taiwan decides to say no.

its kinda hard to say no if say the entire EU decides to annex iceland per say.

also nuclear war is unlikely. just because noone, especially not China is interested in using them.

Your question is wrong, the real question is: Think Taiwan willing to test it?

The status quo today is all about Taiwan not declaring independence. The agreement between China, TW, US is that China+TW is one, just who own who is left ambiguous. The US and China will never change that stance. The only one who might change their stance is TW which CN has consistently threatened that it is a red line it will not tolerate.
