I've heard that if you have good karma (which I do) you can have him go in so long as you have Broken Steel.

I'm playing through Fallout 3 on my 360 right now and I'm at the very last mission in the main questline where you have to either sacrifice your self OR Lyons at the purifier. Now as far as I know, with base game there is absolutely no way to get around this and you will end the game then and there.

What I want to know is if I get the Broken Steel DLC, will that let me send Fawkes in so that I don't die/sacrifice Lyons and then I can continue roaming the Capital Wasteland to do whatever? Or will that still be game over? (I've heard that it does but I've been unable to find concrete evidence that it does)

Yes, you can send in the radiation-immune Fawkes instead of pointlessly committing suicide.

yeah i tried this, but sadly fawkes won;t budge. he just tells you that it is your destiny, and he won't interfere with it.

eventough he is immune to radiation! selfish jerk

He will budge with the DLC. I think the other radiation-immune companions will too.

Which is kinda odd given its the decision that makes the most logical sense and if you just didn't put the FEV in it would give the same results purified water everyone lives happy ending....

I think I sacrificed myself but was surprise revived after the credits rolled thanks to the DLC, but I played Fallout 3 years ago so my memory is a little hazy. @App4that would be the person to ask, he is really into Fallout 3.
