Would I benefit using a SSHD for storing Steam & Origin games?

SSHDs are pretty crap, buy a good HDD or save up for a larger SSD+HDD.

Purchasing a new SSHD (photo posted above) would my games run faster than my current Barracuda? (In terms of loading/rendering response)

It's faster than a regular HDD, then yes you'd see some improvement.  Grab a stopwatch tho, cuz it may be needed to measure the gain

 

@SolarNova has it, depending on your needs get a 500 - 1TB SSD for your game library. Load times are the devil.  Especially modded games and those that have many loading screens for chapters or areas.

 

I was anti-SSD when folks were using 60GB ones for boot drives, way too expensive.  Then I got one because I let Windows get so bloated it took me almost 5 mins to get fully into.  Now I'm a huge proponent and feel if you can go exclusive SSD even, do it

Personaly i dont use HDD's anymore. I have a 1 TB SSD and a 256GB SSD. My old 128GB SSD is now in my old laptop being used in our garden workshop for the CnC machine, and eventualy the telescope once we get the pedestal concreted inplace.

I agree with the SSD part but as of the moment, I can't find the same SSD model (I attached a photo of it) I've seen this ad that the Firecuda is okay for game storage better than a regular HDD (Barracuda).

So, you think it's best if buy an SSD which is 240gb vs a SSHD which runs 1TB to 2TB?

God no.  You'll fill up 240GB in no time.  500GB minimum.  240GB is a Boot/Windows drive.

 

For example, I bought a 256GB SSD a couple Christmas's ago.  Filled it, bought a 2nd.  Filled that.  Gave them to my son, bought the 500 in my sig.  Filled that and bought the 1TB in my sig.

 

I'm looking at buying another 1TB M.2 SSD as well if prices keep dropping.  Even with AT&T Gigabit internet, I'd rather keep the games than spend that time downloading.  

 

Storage is a big deal, whether it be computers or in your house.  Hoard I say!!!!

Yeah good point man. So if I go with an SSH 500gb, sure. So should I not go forward with an SSHD rather buy an SSD if I want better in game performance? Or a Firecuda would do?

Best way (IMO and many as well) is Windows and heavily used games/programs on SSD.  Then get a 7200rpm drive for things that do not need speed, like music, movies, pics, etc.

 

500GB SSD plus a mass storage HDD.  Usually 1-3TB at 7200rpm.

 

The SSHD is like a small SUV.  Not fun to sprint around town with and not big enough for ALL the people and stuff you need for that vacation.  Really, that SSHD is too expensive for what it really does.

I think that best bet for games is Optane+HDD+PrimoCache or SSD+HDD+PrimoCache. There are no board limitations for Optane and from LTT's testing it looks like it can achieve an SSD-like loading times in game. If you can afford a big enough SSD for the same money as HDD+Optane/SSD+PrimoCache license, then obviously go for the SSD.

I definitely want to try PrimoCache sometime, looks interesting.  May be worth it.

I'd say minimum SSD size is 240gb for boot and main games, then u would also need a mass storage drive. So a normal HDD.

 

After that slowly start migrating to full SSD.

I have an SSD for boot, and 1 1TB HDD Barracuda (Which currently is my game storage)

Opting adding another hard drive just for Steam & Origin games. A 500GB SSD won't budge... Would you think a SSHD would be enough just for the sake of gaming storage?

Thanks bro, but unfortunately we don't have this brand in the Philippines. So far we have Samsung, Kingston, Adata, Seagate, Transcend, and Crucial...

SSD + HDD is the better route imo. Those SSHDs don't really impress me.
