PC gaming vs Console

Mugenjynn

This isn’t to say which is better “pc” or “console” but to ask the differences in experience anyone has had from switching? Is pc community more toxic? More competitive? How did it feel to switch exactly? Did the difference in graphics and FPS matter to you? How is modding ? Etc...................

to each their own, some prefer console, some prefer pc, its all in the user.

Is pc community more toxic? More competitive? How did it feel to switch exactly?

Both are toxic

Both are competitive

there is no difference

It feels weird and odd

Toxicity doesn't really change. Get a 12 year old with a mic (or an adult with the mentality of a 12 year old) and you're going to have annoying screeching.

Haven't had a home console since the PS2, but I also never got into console shooters since those weren't my thing. Trying to play an FPS now on PC using my Xbox controller feels really awkward.

There's quite a difference in framerate between console and your typical PC. Graphics also improve (not too much in some games while in others the graphics improve A LOT). Modding is hard on console as well.

Overall it's more a matter of which has games you want to play. If it's cross platform, PC is my platform of choice since I have a pretty decent machine to play them on. :P

That said, I still kind of want a Switch.

Both are equally toxic IMO, and Titanfall 2 on the Xbone makes me lose all faith in humanity.

Also, since I'm a normal human being, the framerate doesn't mean jack shit to me. As long as it runs over 20FPS a majority of the time I'm happy.

I used to have more interest in online gaming and modding, but now I don't. So I've naturally swayed slightly to the convenience of console gaming.

Also yes, not being online as much means you encounter less douchebags. That part I don't miss, from either platform.

Studies show that humans can process more than 200 FPS suprisingly

Games perform and look worse on console, but they are cheap. Console is more toxic IMO, mostly because of 12 years old who get on and rage when their parents aren't home. PC is far more mature, however, it does have its fair share of dumbasses. For me, I use a PC for a myriad of reasons so owning a PC and a console wouldn't make sense (excluding the Switch that has good exclusives). I can work, watch movies, play games, etc. all on one machine. For FPS's I will take KB+M over controller any day of the damn week without question, controllers suck ass for shooting.

Here in ghana console's are very expansive to use . it cost 300 cedis ( 50 dollars ) for sport game like fifa 19 but it cost 40 ghana ( 8 dollars ) for a pc version ( shared account for offline gaming ) aloneside cracked pc games  which cost 20 ghana ( 5 dollars ) compare to 150 ghana (30 dollars ) for the cheapest ps4 game . so pc are fan and cost effective to use here ( ghana -africa ) compare to console

Trust me, it’s not an argument worth participating in lol. Whatever games you play I would lean towards. If you play XBOX or Wii or PlayStation exclusives, then play that. The majority of people on here will probably prefer pc though, for obvious reasons. If you’re into modding, it’s a lot easier on PC on some games. It’s non-existent on some console games

Different games mainly: There are entire genres like Real-Time Strategy that are mostly if not fully absent from any other platform.

Some other genres/styles are notably more convenient and PC centric like MMOs

Other than that there's literally thousands of threads and videos on youtube discussing to exhausting detail what a PC can compare to vs a console, including specifics on hardware and such, but the main point is that the PC just has many more and many different games, with greater (but not all) amount of older titles still being playable on modern machines.

Console tends to have a younger demographic but toxicity level is the same between it and PC. Its just slightly different. Console your more likely to have a child screaming and moaning at you. On PC ur more likely to have an adult bitching at you, both are toxic but i would argue having childs voice trying to act like jack the lad is more annoying.

Personaly i have tried to go back and play consoles games and have found them feeling very sluggish at their usual 30 FPS limits. Im to used to the smoothness and responsivnes of PC. and of PC 'can' look better, but that all dependson the spec of the PC.

Modding is not contest PC all the way.

Also a note on controls. While i know many people are good with FPS games with a controller, i have yet to find a good controler player beat a average mouse and keyboard player, especialy when their is zero aim assist. So control wise, PC , i mean atleast u have the fully suported option of using a different control method if you want.

I prefer playing on my xbox more than my PC simply due to friends. Level of no life and toxicity is similar on both...lots more squeaky kids on consoles tho.

I use both, so its no switch for me.

I have had and do have a console, but its mainly for "home family entertainment" I've played games since the 80's and to me the consoles have been a family/kid thing more than anything.. This does not mean its not good entertainment or less fun however.
But since even before I was a teen I still liked CD/PC's better. Mostly due to them being more advanced and having more use than being a simple entertainment system.

I have all my friends on the PC as well and have been on IE steam since it came out back in 2003.. Due to my age I never really got into console gaming nor gaming it online and neither did any of my friends.. But you can look at it this way if you want too.

Consoles - Entertainment system - Good for sports/racing/platform games and fairly relaxing controller play - Runs like a budget PC but is stable.
PC's - All around system usage - Good for FPS/RTS/Moba/RPG's - Mostly more advanced in terms of gameplay and control usage M/K

As for the toxicity.. I think personally that it is a matter of what games you play rather than what you play on, albeit as I said consoles are a family entertaintment system and thus will often have more youngters playing... If you play a game that is competitive in nature and pits you with and against randoms (Moba's / FPS / Sports games) and the majority playing them are on the younger side (preteen/teens/young adults) you will most likely see alot of toxicity..
I've played my share of the 3 genres listed and those are toxic in general.. My GHRTS games however... I have never meet a toxic person in over 15 years.. But those are mostly adults playing a niche game, so that makes sense.

the key to dealing with toxicity is to turn voice & chat off in games that do not require it.

with that said, outside of gaming the whole "PCMR" is the most toxic bunch of douches ever.

I switched from a gaming rig to an Xbox One S about two years ago.

I was fed up with nVidia driver issues, the constant upgrading of components and this atrocity called Windows 10.

I'm still not sure if I made the right decision though.

Getting used to a controller was pretty hard at first but I managed, especially thanks to single player FPS/3rd person shooters.

Games are usually higher priced on Xbox (even PS4 games seem to have better offers sometimes).

Frame rates are lower as is resolution. If you're far enough away from your TV it shouldn't matter much, resolution at least. If you're accustomed to 60fps, you will see the difference.

Hardware wise it's cheaper tho. Software wise limited and mostly more expensive (no more steam offers^^).

What you won't have problems with (usually) is OS updates. Even games can update while the console is sleeping which is a plus.

Overall: I sold my gaming rig for about 1,500, got the Xbox on sale for about 250 (1tb version) and so far only had to replace a controller. Died hitting a wall lol

Oh, sound might be a thing you wanna consider. Most headsets are cable and are connected to the controller. Xbox one S for example only has an optical output so if you want to connect a wireless headset or an amp / sound system, it needs to support that. USB headsets don't work on XBOS. - Don't know about PS4 or XBOne X.

As toxicity, I usually have voice chat off.
