Yes, you will definitely see a difference between 60 and 144Hz.

Also, worth nothing that most console games do not run at 60fps, so the change from 30 to 144 will be extremely noticeable.

There is no way console games run 30 FPS!? I mean maybe fallout 4 though , that game stuttered a lot

From what I've read, not even Fortnite on consoles will run at 60fps. I'll go poke around the web a bit more to confirm this, I wanna make sure my memory isn't acting up.

Most console games are a consistent 30. Going to PC for me was massive because I went from 30 to 60 fps. 144 Hz is awesome, my friend has a 144 Hz display and it's gorgeous.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Yeah, Fortnite needed a patch to run at 60fps and even then, it's not a full consistent 60fps, it'll drop down to 50 and even 40 in some cases.

But that thread was from Feb 2013 - Almost a year before Xbox One and PS4 were released, so even though the specific consoles aren't mentioned in the thread, it would be discussing the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.
Not disagreeing that consoles run at a lower FPS than PCs, but just saying it's unfair to quote your source for it as a discussion on the now outdated PS3 and Xbox 360.

Even the modern XboxOneX and PlayStation 4 Pro perform better than the original Xbone and PS4 in a lot of titles.

you really shouldnt need anything above 60hz to be honest, other than maybe vr, although i have played vr using psvr and if consoles have anything to say, that was probably at 30 or 60hz anyway

Sadness is the one true emotion, and happiness, well, that's just a lie, sadness is all many of us feel, and is all we need to feel, because having it any other way, would just be wrong, why be happy when you can just be miserable like myself.

I’ve basically been beating myself up over choosing 144hz 1080p and 60hz 4k. Actually sitting here trying to decide

That's a fair point, I had honestly overlooked that. Talking about the games, though. That's part of why it was the last one I linked.

Above 60Hz is better for competitive games.

For competetive games it may be better, but how often would you be playing competetive games that would take proper advantage of the higher framerate, would probably be better off going with a higher resolution monitor instead.

I personally would value FPS, as I mainly play online PvP games.

I also can't drive past 1080p on my rig.

That's what prompted this post:

I spend a lot of time playing FPS games(like r6) competitively but when I don’t feel like doing that I play a range from Bethesda rpg’s to mobas to mmo’s(basically every video game). I kinda want to see the 4k but I don’t know if 60hz will really give me a disadvantage in competitive games or not.

I can assure you that most console games run at 30 op... or at the very least try to.

XBO X and ps4 pro run more at 60...ish but even than its not all of them. and even than they dont always succeed in doing so.

Anyways, to be honest, I am looking at a monitor upgrade from my triple 144hz displays, and to be honest, over 60hz isnt even a factor for me... I just cant find myself picking up a significant difference myself to justify that extra cash. Many sware by it, but I just dont get it, VR is the only exception to this and I want higher fps cause it will make me physically feel ill otherwise.

It'll give you a slight disadvantage, most people who are really competitive will run at 100+Hz.

I'd go for 144Hz over 4k

Don't ever get 60Hz anything. It's an old standard that should have died long ago. It's a crime that manufactures are still pushing this garbage in 2018. 100Hz should be the bare fucking minimum we should expect these days for a low end budget display. If it costs more than $250 it should absolutely support 144Hz+, no exceptions.

If all round fantastic gaming is your goal, the right answer in my experience is 144hz at 1440p. Just limit your FPS to what your rig can output. I play everything at 90fps in 1440p. I still get drops of course but they are rare and brief.

1440p is overpriced in my eyes so I’ll go 1080p 144hz, also I can barely see the difference between 1080 and 1440 anyway.

You can't guarantee that. I can't tell unless I'm looking at UFO test or something.

fair enough, all our eyes are different.

I don't care about price really, have poor eye sight, am old and play demanding ranged based FPS games, and i'm competitive in terms of trying to get better and win! In Squad, Arma, Post Scriptum etc I couldn't go back to 1080p myself.

But many of my friends, who are better shooters than me do just fine at 1080p.
