Where to sell a WD HDD?

iLostMyXbox21

okay so i have a Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 tb 7200rpm hdd, where can i sell it? I do not have a paypal, or any kind of card to use so i prefer cash (if possible) it probably has stuff on it but i dont have any way of wiping it..

i am selling it because i do not even have a PC yet so it is literally just sitting in my drawer doing nothing... i saw it and i thought maybe i could sell it so somebody else could use it...

Craigslist then or sell it to someone you know personally.

if you just want it out, donating it can be a good thing.

I donated my old pc.

Then hope that someone you know wants to buy it, or keep it.

No one's going to pay $40 for a used HDD when they can get a new one with a warranty for a few dollars more.

Hard Drives are something that is going to be a hard sell unless they utilize legacy standards like IDE. And even then, the market for them are small, usually limited to enthusiasts of old school computers. The thing is that hard drives are so fragile, it's not worth buying a used unit just to save a few bucks. People don't know the history of the drive and relying on something you don't know the history of, with GBs of important data is just not a bright idea. It has to be dirt cheap for anyone to bite. 35 bucks is just not cutting it if I could spend 10 bucks more to get a brand new drive with a proper warranty.

If you have the money to spend on a 1TB SSD, then it is. For the mast majority of users, there's still a market for 1TB Hard Drives.

no the main reason is to get rid of it because it's noisy...it's the only thing that is making noise in my PC.

I just put cash on pre-paid gift cards and use that. You just put how much you need so if you buy something and someone gets the card numbers, theirs nothing there.

Also it's impossible to erase the files from a HDD until it's written all over at least once...even if you format it there are still ways to get what was on it...so im not selling it :)

I think that eBay would be a good place to sell the hard drive or if you can not have an account there then I would recommend using another service such as "letgo" which you can get signed into with an email address or Google account. I would include a screenshot from Western Digital's Data Lifeguard software utility for the condition of this drive as it would show to the potential buyer the condition of the drive which may make the cost that you are asking for more reasonable.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,

You could do a low-level format which rewrites the tracks and stuff, but it seems sketchy. I would just keep it and use it for anything.

i plan to push my pictures and music files on it and store it in the closet...if something goes horribly wrong that's one extra copy of my stuff :)
