First build! I'm really proud of it

I just finished my first build and I'm really proud of it.

 

Near the end of the summer, I bought a pc someone else had built for $550. It was a pentium g4600 + 1060 3gb build. It gamed pretty nice at 1080p, but I wanted something that could really handle AAA games and a future monitor upgrade to 1440 or maybe even 4k someday. With that $550 buy, I got that PC, some decent razer peripherals and an Acer 1080p IPS panel. 

 

Here's my final specs for now.

 

-Gigabyte z170x-ud3 motherboard ($40 refurbished on ebay. risky buy but it works great)

-Intel i5-6600k OC'd to 4.4Ghz with a Cryorig H7  (I paid $150 for the cpu used +$35 for the cooler)

-Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce OC  (I only payed $320 for this thing, used less than 6 months old)

-Corsair Vengeance RGB 16gb at 3000mhz (paid around $150 on amazon for these)

-Crucial 275gb SSD (came with the original pc i bought)

-WD Blue 1tb HDD  (came with the original pc i bought)

-Corsair cx650m PSU ($60 at bestbuy. it was on sale!)

-some crappy case fans (my temps are great even when stress testing so i see no need to upgrade)

-all in a Phanteks p300 case with a couple rgb strips (total of $65 on amazon)

-uphere white cable extension kit (only $30. looks great)

 

I love how it looks, since I was able to go with this black and white theme for it all. I found that random little llama statue and put him inside for fun lol. 

I'm also super proud of how much I paid for it. I sold the pentium, mobo, 1060, and case for $300. That means I got all those peripherals, and the storage for $250. PCPartPicker says my build would cost over $1700 new, and I got it all for $1100 once I sold that old stuff. I think I did pretty well. 

 

 

Just thought I'd try to show it off! I think I did a pretty good job for it being my first build.

does the GPU run cool? This case is notorious for poor front panel design that hurts airflow a lot. The CPU cooler is somewhat saved by the intake/exhaust (I'll use it as intake) on the top, but the graphics card... Oh dear.

Looks good. I normally don't go for clear sides and LED's but yours is nicely understated.

Furmark takes it to about 70C after 5 minutes.

I actually have the ram and LEDs on rainbow cycle, though blue and blue would look really nice together. I wish I could find a way to sync the colors, but my mobo has no rgb header. the LEDs are plugged into the case.

GPUs clock nowhere near as high as they usually do in things like Furmark and its equivalents like Kombustor. Use Heaven instead.

right, that would mean that if it only goes to 70C in Furmark, it shouldnt ever go above that in anything else? meaning my temps are fine.... i think?

no. it means nothing to performance in games. It's just a totally different scenario to games. Heaven is more similar to games, though of00 course it's best tested with a GPU-heavy game that pushes GPU usage to 99%

gotcha. I'm still just using this 1080p monitor so i'm guessing nothing is pushing the card too hard right now. we'll see how the temps hold up whenever i upgrade that.

Yeah, but it still looks great! I just have blue Corsair Vengeance LED RAM. 

 

Also, those cables look hella dope. They are so well managed. Mine don't look that good.

thanks! I spent forever working with them....the backside is a disaster... its hidden though so who cares lolol.

Just ran Heaven for a bit and it again got up to 70C and maintained that temp. all ultra settings and no framerate cap.

good for you that it stayed the same. My Asus card get 62C in Furmark, 68C in Heaven

nice. I could bump up fan speed a bit if it starts running hot.... My only problem with this card as that the coil whine is pretty bad in some games. not noticeable when speakers a playing game audio thankfully, but it sucks for such a high end card to make weird noises lol

my only visual gripe with my build is that the cpu cooler looks like it's sagging. I've remounted it twice and made sure everything is screwed in nice and stuff.... Its not even a heavy cooler. The CPU socket just must be at a bit of an angle on this mobo. the temps are fine, but it looks like its falling off lol

My Cryorig H5 has the same thing going for it. Just the slightest sag but I notice it and it bugs me to haha. My R1 doesn't have that issue though.

damn that looks really good and Im not a huge fan of what appears to be tempered glass and think RGB has been overdone but that's pretty good. The color choice is reasonable, the LEDs arent super obvious.

Seems very odd. If I get an AIO I wouldn’t notice it.... maybe I’ll do that someday

I made sure to hide them behind the black part of the glass

I have an H7 also and I think it might look like it sags a little too.

If you do get a AIO 10/10 Kraken X52

The reality is that it doesn't really make a difference. Only you will notice it haha. But I actually have moved away from AIO's. My overall system's ambient temps are several degrees C lower now that I'm using my R1 and for the price point tower coolers usually still perform slightly better. It's mostly an aesthetic preference. But I have got rid of both my AIO's in favor of Cryorig tower coolers. This is not to say AIO's are bad but that was my personal preference.
