Will a i3 8350k bottleneck a RTX 2080?

The i5 8600K is only about $85 more at NewEgg.  Amazon should have similar pricing.  I would definitely go with that if I was on a restricted budget.

Hi, I am building a new computer, and I don't got a lotta money, but I want RTX 2080. I calculated that I can afford a i5 8600k, but if I can get away with a i3 8350k, that would be great. Does anyone know for a fact that in even single core CPU and GPU heavy workloads, the i3 8350k will not bottleneck the RTX 2080? I'll be overclocking to at least 4.5GHz. if I can, then 5.0GHz.

Not super urgent, but if you have an answer, please tell me as soon as easily possible.

Thanks

Note to everyone. This thread is solved

wouldnt shout bottleneck all over the place, but thats defenately NOT a good combination...

if you're onn a relatively tight budget.. get a 2070 (or a last-gen card? they're more palletably priced for not *that* much performance difference) and get at least an i5.

Skip 2000 series, they are trash.  Ray tracing is slow, as has been with all "new feature" GPU's.  Just get a cheap 1070  or 1060.

Why do you want a 2080? You're basically throwing away money...just get a 1080ti.

it could cause a limitation but i wouldnt call it a bottleneck, either way get the locked I5 8400 over the unlocked i3 for gaming its better youll actually see a difference with that CPU and that GPU combo

And get an unbalanced system? He'll probably make an upgrade thread in a few weeks if he goes with that system...

sure tell him not to buy the i3 and to get the 8600k but the GPU doesnt matter at that high end if youre talking about system balance you said get a 1080ti instead that isnt going to be an imbalance? but the 2080 is... okay alright...

If you dont have the money to beta-test hardware, dont buy beta quality hardware.

most i3 8350k cannot get 5ghz most lockout at 4.8 some go above it yeah but thats the average and even then it  will run hardly faster than the 8400 locked CPU it will also require more substantial cooling

also i own an 8600k @ 5ghz if youre curios, i thought about getting the locked but then i saw the 8600k when OCed will out perform the 7700k kaby lake i7 i had to get it

So, I should not skimp, and go ahead and get the i5 8600k? BTW, for all you haters of the RTX 2080, I'm set on that, sorry. You're not changing my mind unless a non-used 1080 ti is under $500.

Pairing an i3 8350K with an RTX 2080 is like going to a job interview wearing sneakers and a suit.  Will not impress your prospective boss.
Ok, some people actually do that, but it's usually unwise.

Of course, I suppose you could upgrade your CPU at a later point should you find out that it is actually holding you back.  Personally, I tend to be proactive, going with what I think would be a good fit of both CPU and GPU.

Yes, don't skimp.  The i3 8350K has 4 cores, no threads and the i5 8600K has 6 cores, no threads.

the FE is a bad version of the card, a 1080Ti is cheaper

its 85 more, you need to quote or tag people for them to see it.

If you're spending $800 on a GPU, don't spend $200 on a CPU. It will bottleneck it, and it will stutter, and it won't be a good experience. If you're tight on money go for a 2600. Otherwise pony up for an 8600k and overclock it. Anything less and you're better off waiting for the 2070, then getting one of the previously stated CPUs with the savings.

Take a look at the rest of the posts please. I am going to get a i5 8600k. I don't like AMD so much, so I am NOT going to get a Ryzen 5 2600.

It was entertaining reading this whole thread, but I think a 8600k and a 1080ti is just as good honestly, but I won't stop you from a 2080 if you want it, it should work well with a 8600k.

Also, it'll depend on how lucky you are if you want to try and shoot for 5ghz on the 8600k and high overclocks is gonna wear out the cpu. I'm planning a 8600k and plan to do a lower overclock if not any overclocking until I need to.
