Paying Monthly for Windows 10?

LinuxTek

Someone just noticed Microsoft is hiring employees for a new Division to start charging monthly fees to use Windows 10.

And dont forget they may add this feature on windows 7

I thought Windows 7 generally just locked the entire OS the moment the grace period passes.

"Microsoft Managed Desktop’ which will charge a monthly fee to configure computers running Windows 10 and keep them running smoothly as new updates are released."

"Foley believes Microsoft Managed Desktop will be targeted at businesses"

This definitely sounds like a business-only service.

This is for businesses -- just makes it easier for smbs (especially without an IT department) to keep their systems patched and running well. This isn't really necessary for an end consumer.

This is for targeted Business to Business marketing.  Outline which page that states they sell social media info to businesses, or stop spreading FUD.

I could just be imagining it but I could swear I remember hearing about this ages ago.  At any rate, this isn't charging for Windows 10, it's basically for Microsoft to provide some sort of routine tech support service.  It's not going to impact end users.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Both of these articles are regarding Business users, although I'd be willing to bet Forbes purposefully wasn't super forthcoming on that fact. Windows 7 loses support January 2020 for mainstream consumers, but businesses have the option to purchase yearly maintenance contracts to continue using it for up to 3 years I believe, with the cost increasing each year, as an incentive to switch to Windows 10.

Additionally, the subscription news about Windows 10 is referring to Managed Desktop, which is indeed a subscription-based Windows 10 environment, once again aimed at the business sector, and won't affect home users, at least in the present moment. Even if it does come to the consumer market, it will most likely be sold and marketed separately from retail one-time-purchase Windows licenses.

well MS are collecting and selling a LOT of stuff about you if you use windows 10 even if you "turn off" the settings. Windows 10 is spyware

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler alert, they have been doing this for decades, just as your ISP, search engine, browser, all websites, and cell phone have been doing all along.
