Acoustic Foam Substitute?

I'm too broke to afford acoustic foam at the moment, so is there any sort of substitute I can use in the meantime? The only substitute I can think of is spare bed sheets, and I don't know how I'd put them on the wall.

If your trying to prevent echo and reverberation your best option next to foam would be heavy weight curtains that are installed a few inches away from the walls. Installing a curtain rod would be the easiest.

 

Another is to create your own acoustical panels using a frame with sound dampening insulation.

See if you can get your hands on some carpet samples, the ones that are around the size of a door mat.

Carpet warehouses usually have a ton of those lying around.

Egg cartons was always the old school way. You can get a couple hundred for around 20.

Just make sure to never organise your room. A great mess is also a great way to eliminate reflections.
