EA finds new ways to suck

Dr. Spejus

Just had an interesting experience with EA games.  I got the itch to play Simcity, which I have not tried to play for four years.  When I attempted to login to origin I could not figure out my old password.  Also realized that the account was connected to my old college email which I no longer have access too.  Talked to EA customer service and found out as of the end of August email verification is the only way to verify an account and that I am out of luck on the games I have purchased with EA until they figure out another way to verify accounts some time in the future.  Even though I migrated my old emails to my new account and have to old purchase codes for the games it does me no good.  I thought this might be an interesting thing to look into for tech news stuff.

Happened to me as well. My account got hacked and they changed the email. Lost over $100 and there was nothing support could do about it. EA is useless.

Sounds like a problem on your end, nothing wrong on their end.

This looks like a bigger problem below

If you have the codes, you can try calling the Better Business Bureau. You own the codes for the game and the EULA can't bar you from moving that code to another account that you own.

This is assuming you're in the US. Australia has another agency for consumers.

That is an actual problem and could be solved on their end.

RorzNZ are you in the EU?

If your not in the EU the following won't apply.
Call them up/email them and threaten a GDPR request for all information they hold of yours. If they say it can not be completed as they can't verify your identity advise them they are holding your financial details and are obliged to give you the relating data (which you can prove with an old bank statement) or will be reported  them to the ICO... at which point i suspect they will talk to their boss and just reset the account for you (maybe after you send a bank statement showing a payment to EA).

Defiantly worth a try. The worst that can happen is they ignore you.

It was a long time ago. All the receipts are attached to my old email, I really should have sorted it out a while before it happened. I don't save my credit cards on online accounts so I'm safe from that.

The main problem is they don't keep a record of past passwords or email addresses. So if you were a bit like me and don't save receipts for origin purchases, then it's game over. It's just a little frustrating I remember being with the guy on chat for over an hour, and actually ringing them up about it. The only thing I could do to recover my account is give them a game code I bought, but with no access to the email I signed up with, it was an issue.

The crazy thing is I have my purchase codes and that was not good enough.  I had to have access to that old college email account to regain access.
