I have a Corsair Carbide Spec 03 case and I think my psu is giving out (pc shutting down during more demanding games) and I want to replace the PSU with a Seasonic M12II 620 evo

The question I have is that PSU able to fit in my case since the Seasonic is a bit larger than my current one 160 x 150 x 86 vs my 150 x 140 x 86

Judging by eye measurement the case should theoretically have room for the extra 10 mm but I want to be sure before I order as I hate to send it back and look for another one that fits.

Thank you in advance.

its compatible, your case supports up to a 288mm psu

If they're both standard ATX you should be good.

The G550M has a 5 year warranty, use it.

I got my PC via 3rd party (pc repair company) and they told me they dont do 5 year warranty for it.

Besides they also told me the GPU was bad when I took it in for repair when i had shutdown problems so at this moment I dont even care, I just want to get my pc back up and running and not bother with them.

Replacing your Cooler Master G550M with a Seasonic M12II-620 EVO is a major downgrade.

The 5 year warranty isn't given to you by the store. It's given to you by Cooler Master. So contact Cooler Master about the warranty they gave you.

How so ? It has bigger wattage, bigger +12v amp, on the retail site says it has japanese capacitors which apparently is a big deal as in some of the reviews for my cooler master g550m people said it might be part of a batch with chinese/taiwanese capacitors, saying its a big no-no.

I will try to see about the warranty tho.

It's DC-DC, instead of group regulated. It supports some lower power states, which the M12 II doesn't support. A PSU is more than just capacitors, you know.

The S12 II/M12 II also lacks protections.

The most important thing in a power supply is providing clean, stable power to your components. Having 250 extra watts instead of 200W when your entire PC only uses 300W is irrelevant.

The G550M uses DC-DC converters on its secondary side, which results in stable voltages under all conditions, even unbalanced loads.

M12II-620 uses group regulation instead, which is the cheapest, most basic scheme for regulating voltages. It makes the voltages less stable under balanced loads, but also makes them wildly unstable under unbalanced loads, i.e. situations when most of the computer uses +12V and almost nothing uses +5V. Modern computers are exactly like that, they place 99% of their load on +12V. That causes group regulated power supplies to heavily drop 12V, sometimes even to out-of-spec levels.

M12II-620 is a design from 2010, which is why you can't expect it to work good with "modern" (last 3 years or even more) computers at all.

Protections are also very important, since they protect your components and also the power supply. The Seasonic doesn't have Over Temperature Protection, which is one of the most important ones. Since the fan is the first thing to fail in a power supply, once it fails there is nothing (except OTP) to stop the PSU from overheating. If the unit doesn't get shut down by OTP, the elevated temperatures can cause it to blow up one of the components such as the rectifying diodes.

It also doesn't have Under-Voltage Protection, which is particularly important for group regulated power supplies which can't keep the voltages from dropping.

Japanese capacitors are actually made in China. But country of origin or brand doesn't matter (which graphics card is faster, an AMD or nVidia one?), the specifications do. Some capacitors are better and some are worse, and it doesn't have anything to do with the brand or country, but with the particular model and series of the capacitor. Let me recap an old Apevia unit with all Japanese-brand capacitors and connect it to your computer - it will blow up all the same. G550M doesn't use any short-lived capacitors. In addition, it uses some solid-state capacitors, which easily outlive the best electrolytic capacitors.

Also G550M uses synchronous rectification with MOSFETs on the secondary side instead of passive rectification with Shottky Barrier Diodes in the Seasonic, which makes it better suited for modern graphics cards with fast-changing loads.

Ok, so I am not getting a warranty for it as I dont have the receipt and the 3rd party i got it though wont offer

The cooler master G550M is out of stock in most place but managed to find it on sale at a smaller shop and I think I will buy it since I really like this PSU (even tho it seems to have failed me)

The only thing that bothers me is that you tell me my PSU is GOOD yet other people tell me my PSU is BAD

The linustechtips PSU tier list ranks my PSU as a tier 4 (out of 7)

Which leads me to something I noticed about PSU and other components when I built my PC a few years ago

Some people say COOLERMASTER is bad, get CORSAIR

Some people say CORSAIR is bad, get EVGA

Some people say EVGA is bad, get SEASONIC

Some people say SEASONIC is bad, get <this brand>

Some play say <this brand> is bad, get COOLERMASTER

It is this never ending cycle. I bought the CM g550m because it was a brand I knew about, it had all those protections you mentioned, had a decent price and about the capacitors I always take reviews with a grain of salt; anything can break over time or come dead on arrival ...even a $1000 psu

I am not here to insult anyone or cause a debate and I am really grateful for your time and help, but when I get conflicting opinions it makes it hard for me to come to a decision or listen to my gut feeling.

The simple solution to this problem is to stop listening to people recommending things by brand. You can't recommend things by brand. Not only power supplies, but any consumer item.

Imagine a Corsair power supply, and an EVGA power supply. Which one has more wattage?

Is a BMW car faster, or an Audi one? Does an LG phone have bigger screen, or a Xiaomi phone?

It makes no sense to use the brand as the only selector. You are not buying a brand, but a single particular device. That's why you should compare the particular items you're considering.

Does Corsair TX650M have more power than EVGA G2 550W? Is a BWM i8 1.5 2018 faster than Audi A3 8P 2012? Does LG V30 have bigger screen than Xiaomi Redmi 4X?

Now questions like these are possible to answer, unlike the previous ones.

Now I'm sure many people here would be happy to recommend a replacement PSU for you, but we don't know your region or the stores you can buy from, so we can't actually suggest anything in particular.

SeaSonic, Corsiar, EVGA, CoolerMaster, BitFenix, XFX...etc...ALL carry a wide grade/range of PSUs.

Just look at our PSU Tier List.

An EVGA 600B is garbage compared to Corsair CMX 550W.

A Corsair CXM 550W is not as good as a EVGA 550W P2, or a SeaSonic Focus Gold 550W.

The CoolerMaster MasterWatt Maker is one of the Best 80 PLUS Titanium units money can buy...while the CoolerMaster Elite 460W is like the worst you can buy.
