What about Most wanted 2005? For me that was the best of all .

My all-time favorite is NFS3: Hot Pursuit, the very first game to bare that name, released back in 1998. 2nd best would be Underground 2.

I remember Porsche 2000 when I was younger being awesome. I loved Underground but I don't think I ever played 2

For story and OST

 

Gameplay wise? I kinda like NFS: Rivals. I like how you can become cops there, NFS: Hot Pursuit is dull for me although it shares similar concept with Rivals.

I like MW2005 for the story and pursuits; Carbon for story and gameplay.
