Posted August 27, 2018 I really wanted to build a retro PC gaming PC Ive scoured ebay, junk stores, thrift stores, local classifieds and PC recycle places and I have managed to source the following Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - £1 Nvidia 8800 GTX £12 2 x 2gb 1066 DDR2 memory £3 Asus P5KPL-AM Micro ATX board £4 Ive already got the following: 500Gb WD laptop HDD 7200rpm Some crappy no name micro ATX case EVGA 500B Power Supply. For retro gaming do you think Windows XP? this is thew earliest operating system drivers are available. Any thoughts on the build - any additions I can make? Posted August 27, 2018 XP is one of the better operating systems for retro gaming. Some games such as the original Doom might take some doing to get working on XP, but it's definitely possible. One thing I will mention is that you need a known valid XP product key, as well as an install disk. You will also have to call Microsoft to activate it, otherwise you have to reinstall every 30 days. Posted August 27, 2018 XP is my retro gaming OS of choice. Your system is going to be ideally specced for it, too: a strong dual core (for the time) and 4GB of RAM.
