Hey Gang,

I was wondering if I would be able to get some input from you guys. So I have just completed building a new computer rig from the bottom up and need some help with determining how far I can push my Overclocking, but mostly whether or not my computer is being bottle necked in anyway.

Here are the Spec's to my parts:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-8700K Processor

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)

MB: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING

PSU: HXi Series™ HX1000i

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 750D

Purpose of Rig: Strictly hardcore gaming. I just got Far Cry 5, runs it pretty smooth but there are definite lag spikes.

QUESTION's:

1. Am I being Bottled necked?

2. How far can I push my CPU to be over clocked?

3. Is it possible to over clock my GPU?

4. What should my average idle temperatures be for my CPU, MB & GPU?

5. I know the PSU is overkill but I bought it because I'm going to be picking up another GTX 1080 SC2; Will this be enough PSU?

6. How do I over clock my cpu .. lol

Also, any recommendations for a monitor? I plan to get one with the following spec's: 27", 1440P, 144HZ, 1MS, G-SYNC. I actually bought the MSI MAG27CQ and experienced a dead pixel upon arrival 3x in a row. I decided to finally return the POS and wait patiently until I find the right monitor lol.

Please feel free to leave any comments or tips, as I'm a total newbie builder and Just need some help and advise!

Thanks everyone!!!

That PSU should be fine with your setup; however, that depends on how much you overclock.

Why do you want to get an additional 1080? For a majority of the applications, the performance increase isn't worth the price.

I'm getting it because the kid inside me wants to run 2k gaming at 500FPS LOL. Just kidding, but seriously speaking, I simply don't want lag. And from what I've read, running the kind of monitor I want is going to take some serious power.

  1. You will always be bottlenecked somewhere.
  2. Depends on the CPU. You might get a great overclocker, you might not.
  3. Yes.
  4. I want to say mid 30's. Depends on the case, air flow, etc.
  5. Yes, but SLI is stupid.
  6. YouTube.

I'd consider an ultrawide since you've got more than enough power to push the extra pixels.

Hi Dizmo,

Thanks for the info.

1. Why do you say I will always be bottlenecked somewhere?

4. Okay awesome, My average idle right now is high 20's, but under load goes around 30-50, gaming is like 60s.

5. Why is SLI stupid?

Thanks again

Because you will. There will always be one component that will be the one holding you back, even if you have the best of everything.

Yeah that's nothing to worry about. Your temps are great.

It's supported by fewer and fewer titles. The added cost doesn't really make sense either, especially when you factor in the GTX 2080; you might as well sell the Ti and grab one of those, and get better (if the benchmarks show it, I can't recall how much better the 1080Ti was over the 1080 % wise) performance across all titles.
