Hi guys. Thanks for stopping by.

I bought a second hand 1070 mini and it's kinda dusty. Just I would say the typical graphics card that's been used for 6 months and not cleaned.

I've tried cleaning it but there's only so much I can do. my GPU idles at around 50c I feel like its too high for the card. Is that normal?

That's too old for me

It's fine, but run a stress test on it, like AIDA 64, etc to see how high it will go after 20-30 minutes.

my gtx970 strix is running fanless up to 60 degrees, so on idle it runs hot, but never exceeds 70 degrees when stressed, I force it to run 60% fan speed all the time to make it cooler, maybe to increase lifespan, but it isn't loud at all

Compressed air in a can should be more than enough for cleaning, just blow the air from multiple angles, especially from the side on the heatsink-fins, so the dust comes out from the other side or from the top.

Most cards Idle 5-6C above ambient temps, and 50 is fine for a card (as long as it stays below 95c on regular basis), but you might want to clean out any dust with an air can if it is present, to extend the life of your card.

Just to add. If I let my card run in partial fanless mode, it will idle at 50C. If I launch EVGA Precision where I a custom fan profile set so the fan is on all the time, but at the lowest speed at temperatures lower than around 45C, idle temps drop to about 35C.

A PC-case's airflow does have quite a big impact on the temps of everything inside. I have a GTX1080 that idles at ~35C with its own fans off, but that's because I chose to go with a case with good airflow and I tried to route all the cables inside so that they wouldn't be blocking the cool air from reaching everything.

By comparison my full-size 1070 is idling at 45°C. 50° does't seem bad at all for the mini variant. Is it in an sff case of some sort? That can also affect temps.

yeah its a mini itx! thanks for ur reply
