Turing is just volta but made cheaper for mass market. Titan V is volta...

There is a chance they could release a Titan based on turing that supports SLI but it wont outperform Titan V. I would bet my house on that. My guess is they wont, just release a 1180ti and call it a day until something actually new is ready.

I don't know.  If the next one is able to maintain what I'm trying to do now without pinning itself to 100% usage, I should be OK.  Playing 4K/140 ain't easy with certain games.  I'd speculate that the next round of GPUs will be able to do that quite a bit easier.

I know what Titan V is; I'm quite well-versed on what NVidia's current GPUs are.  :-)   And you're speculating (again) on exactly what Turing is.  I'd be careful when making such proclamations like that.

Of course if they release a SLI compatible version it would be more powerful in SLI, except that they wont if Turing is what EVERYONE thinks it is. You like the titan name but there is no reason they couldn't just release 1180ti. They have no imperative to release a cutdown Titan V and call it something else.

 

I haven't seen a single piece of information that contradicts the industry wide expectation that Turing is cheap volta

I would think they wouldn't do that. The titan series makes them alot of money and as much as they say the titan series isn't meant for gaming people always buy them for exactly that. The issue with the titan v is that it's actually not optimized for gaming making it a much worse buy then a 1080ti or titan Xp. I mean buying a titan v would be like buying a quadro for gaming it just wouldn't make sense. I think they know there are people who will pay for a gaming oriented titan card so they will likely make them again just because of the high margins they have.

Recently (as of Titan V) Nvidia has been branding titan only for compute which is what they were saying. I think it makes sense that each titan will now be the leading gpu of the next architecture going forward.

 

So my guess is we'll see a Titan A for ampere like a year before ampere cards

I honestly doubt this tbh. I think they would make more money if they released a gaming oriented version. I don't think they would pass up on a lucrative product like this.

What makes it more lucrative other than them charging a ton. Titan didnt exist before Kepler. They can just sell tons of 1180ti's and still print money while focusing titan on compute and charging 3k a card which is double what old titans were.

You'll be paying a premium to get the latest architecture before mass market, nvidia gets to charge double so they dont even lose money compared to SLI is my main point

Quadro V100, nvlink is enabled on them, they are slightly faster than the titan v and have 32GB of VRAM, grab two. Then prepare a psychiatrist for your wallet because it's going to need it for how violated it will be.

The problem with your suggestion is: NVLink != SLI.  They're not the same thing.

I know they aren't the same thing. However that doesn't mean you can't take adavantage of it. Depending on what you are doing you could take advantage of NVLink and could possibly be a huge benefit. I get to "play" with it almost every day at work so I have plenty of experience with it.

It was £300, which is a decent value for a used GTX 1070 Amp Extreme ( quickest 1070 it seems).

Yes, it was, as new ones are like £350 here, used ones can be had from £260 if you are lucky, but £280 ish are the normal prices in UK

That's cool that you're able to play with it almost every day.  Sincerely.  It sounds an awful lot like you're talking about HPC which is severely interesting to me.  Hopefully it's obvious (and this is more for those that it's not obvious to), gaming w/SLI profiles isn't even remotely the same thing.  And games aren't going to take advantage of NVLink in any way that I can imagine; certainly not in a way that would improve and increase their frame rates.

 

My want is for whatever NVidia calls the gaming version of the "1180Ti"++.  Today, that's the Titan Xp.  My assumption is that they're going to continue with that naming scheme, but no one but NVidia knows for sure.  I do doubt that the "Ti" version will be the top dog.

Not really a good rumor, if its like that then the 1160 has to be as good as a GTX 1070 Ti and if its not then people would buy the older card, same with the 1170, if its not better then the 1080 (by better i mean 30-40%) then they would buy the 1080 for cheaper.
