So guys,

I am eventually looking to buy a 4k at least 55 inch TV and even though OLED is at least currently around triple the price of standard LED ones, basically everyone agrees on the fact that picture quality wise, OLED is THE thing by a long shot. Since I am not really in a rush to buy the TV, I do not truly mind waiting thrice as long before I save up enough money for that, if it is indeed worth it.

One thing I am really afraid of though, is OLED burn in. Is it truly a problem in today's OLED panels, or would it require something extreme, like 24+ hours of something like game with constant displays to happen? Is it reversible if it happens? I just get a PTSD flashbacks of earlier plasma tvs, where the burn in was an incredibly serious problem...

Also maybe I will also ask this. Is it maybe a good idea to wait for microLED to hit the consumer market, or is that too far off? I heard promising stuff about microLED being the new OLED with no burn in problems.

It's still a thing for the most part. Newer models have had this reduced (The Samsung S8+ has an OLED screen but mine has yet to suffer any burn in) however people have reported burn ins on the Google Pixel's, so it's definitely still a thing

Unknown how long something like UI would have to be on the screen for that to happen, it probably depends more on the brightness of the elements rather than duration. Sometimes theyre fixable, there are apps and videos that try to throw a lot of colors and brightness on the screen to purge it, I dont know if they truly work or not.

Dunno how far off it is, but we're seeing prototypes from the big manufacturers. I wouldn't expect them to be hitting shelves until maybe 2020

My LG has a screen saver that activates within 30 seconds (?) if there is no activity for any of the apps built into it.  Example: using the Youtube app, the screen saver will not run if the video is playing, but if you're just looking at the browse window, the screen saver will activate if you do nothing for 30 seconds, even with the animated thumbnail playing for the video that is selected.  It's actually a pretty intelligent system.  I assume the screen saver delay can be changed.

It will not come on, however, for non LG operations.  If I'm using my Oppo or PS3, then the LG screen saver is basically off.  Both of those other systems also have screen savers, so I've never run into a situation where the screen displays the image for any great length of time (though I don't watch broadcast TV).  I would guess something like a news program or stock ticker (maybe even a sporting event?) with a constant banner would the a real worry.

As far as picture quality is concerned, they do have the most accurate colors and the lowest blacks, but LED-LCD can achieve higher brightness.  If your home theater space is well lit (big window facing the sun, etc.), then LCD might actually be better for some HDR content.  Short of having way too much light, I'd definitely recommend OLED (Dolby Vision content is awesome!).
