AMD + Nvidia graphics card runs together

DavidScann

I have a spare RX-560 (4gb) and I'm about to buy a PC with a GTX 1050 (2gb) inside of it. Is there a way to run them both? If yes, how do I make them co-operate?

Install both cards onto the motherboard. You will need both AMD and Nvidia drivers in this case.

But why?

Sorry to disappoint, but I believe there is no easy way to run them both together even if pro applications, let alone games.

You can install them in the same system assuming there are enough slots and the power supply is up to both of them. How you use them depends on the application. If the application supports one or the other, it should do so. If it offers a choice you can select the better one for the application. Some compute type workloads may be able to use both at the same time, but this is highly application specific. For gaming, it is one or the other, outside of the extremely rare scenario the game developer makes use of a new mode in DX12. Assume most things don't support it.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

if you can even get them installed (with nvidia this is highly questionable since they (used to) block using AMD cards along their cards), getting them cooperating is not possible because there is no way in hell nvidia will allow this. Even if it would be possible with DX12 i bet you anything nvidia would do anything and everything they can to make it impossible.

I have no signature

As far as gaming goes, there's no way to run both at the same time.

No, not for gaming. Yes in some application like Blender.

DX12 explicit multi-GPU seems to be dead.

Why are you buying a GTX 1050 in the first place? The RX 560 is only marginally slower to nearly hard to tell levels.

Because I'm buying a PC (I can't build one for my life) that already has one.

  • 3 years later...

Recently I have found that whilst using AMD card and nvidia Card they can share the same bandwidth bus on the motherboard.  Also on certain applications can be used not together bit simultaneously (So far only VR applications)
