lol yea, hopefully you caught the sarcastic tone of my topic header. I hate RGB, and not a fan of Asus.. I have no plans of ever owning one personally.

Although RGB is overdone on many things, pc cables, infinite RGB "tunnel" on inwin cases, etc. I still like RGB. But on a phone, ?????, that's just really overdoing it. Rog should probably should just stay away from phones because it looks like an Asus Rog Laptop and an Asus Rog Monitor had a baby, a kinda ugly one tbh. They have their Asus phones and I think that their ROG branch of Asus should just stick to what they do best, Motherboards, GPUs, Monitors, Laptops, some of their PCs (That HUracan thooo), you get the point.

The RGB phone has arrived....

Also, is that a headphone jack? With 3 USB-C ports? And a 4000mAh battery??

I’m not big on the aesthetics but just seeing how they are able to stuff all of those alongside dual front speakers makes other phones who ditched the headphone jack for “lack of space” look even more of a poor excuse. If the price is around the ballpark of the Razer Phone, I have a feeling I know which I’d go for.

Okay. So the ROG smartphone is now launched, and it has some cool new accessories, a much better ecosystem than the razer phone, looks cool, etc.

But the question is, what's the point of a gaming phone? Why would you buy it?

Ya but, why does a "gaming phone" needs to exist? I mean, it has almost the same specifications as the other flagships of this year, albeit a higher clock speed, a higher refresh rate panel, better cooling and of course RGB. But the thing is, you can get almost the same experience if you just connect one of those Bluetooth controllers to any other non "gaming" flagship?

People just buy stuff because of the word gaming. It is all marketing.

Maybe as a pc gamer you dont see any point of buying it, but im pretty sure there are actual mobile gamers that would pay this kind of money for it

okay, I agree. It makes sense only if you are using it as a stand alone device, I mean without any accessories.

But, as soon as you connect one of those docks, or that cooler, it loses its portability. If that's the scenario people are gonna use that phone for, then don't you think that a PC or even a mid range laptop makes sense? Maybe a nintendo switch?

oh I know.. I personally detest RGB. Have no clue why people like the eye vomit that it is? It would be so distracting during work and gaming sessions seeing things out of my peripheral view that would cause me to go crazy!!! I get that already with some of the LEDs on the boards that blink during certain things at times.

Apparently I have missed the RGB party express train as well since I’m not ready to sell any of my body parts to pay for the RGB premium tax.

I’m not a gamer at all (not very good at it, use PCs for computer simulations), so all that attention screaming lighting and striking shapes doesn’t really tickle my fancy. Although, I do like the sight of builds incorporating some RGB elements... if I had to choose between paying a premium for aesthetics (like RGB) or for performance, I would - without a doubt - go for the latter.

I mean, to their credit, at least it stands out from a sea of rectangular glass slabs.

Too bad it's also extremely edgy

A tetradecahedron shaped phone would also stand out from the sea of rectangular slabbed phones and be very edgy.

But I hope that you agree with me that that would be a bad idea, no? There is a reason why phones are shaped that way.

Since I consider gaming on a phone to be a waste of time and nothing more, this device is absolutely pointless to me. But it looks neat. Though that is its strongest selling point, at least for me. And I do hope it's not more than $700-$800, because otherwise it's not worth it.

Gaming on a phone, at the point where you even have a seperate cooler to cool down the device while gaming, is simply a niche on its own.

ASUS's implementation completely defeats the purpose of having a mobile phone.

Indeed. The slab is common for a reason.

Just that every now and then, there's always something different. It does stand out, although maybe for not all the right reasons
