Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan 

Star Wars Thrawn trilogy from Timothy Zahn. Wish those were the new movies.

Game of Thrones isn't bad. If you watch the TV shows though, too much is given away in the books early (clues that aren't present in the show)

Dune series

Riftwar series by Raymond Feist. I think Magician was the first book.

 

Outside of fantasy.

Count of Monte Cristo was always my favorite. 

Call of the Wild/White Fang by Jack London.

 

Read a lot more then those series/books (always read before I go to sleep) but those were my favorites.

ever heard of racambole? i think they are pretty fun so far, it's a series of 20 books, i think they are hard to come by so you probably wont find them anywhere .. they are awesome and fun though, as long as you can see humor in something that is otherwise miserable, basicly revolves around a crook and his evil schemes and the people trying to unveil them, and this goes on for several generations.

 

theres also cathedral of the sea, not really for me .. to much drivel for my tastes but someone else might enjoy it, i liked it appart from certain parts of the book that i found to try and appeal to the female audience.

+1 for dark tower series "go now there are other worlds than these"

 

+1 for dune. but steer away from the ones written by Herbert's kid. it was a valiant effort for the son to keep on with his deceased fathers tradition but it wasn't the same

 

and I +1 for the thrawn trilogy.
