1440p 144hz or 1080p 144hz

PatrikPotter

So,i played on 60hz monitor for a long time now,and i want to upgrade it to 144hz but i dont rly know if i should buy the 1440p monitor or 1080p,i know that the fps will be different but that will not be the problem, normally im playing fast paced games like pubg,cs-go and so on,just asking if the 1440p is having much better quality than 1080p and is it worth it? Right now im running on gtx 1050 ti graphics card but will upgrade to gtx 1080 when i get the monitor.

I have a GTX 1080 and I play on a 1440p monitor. I would say go for 1440p, as the resolution bump is noticeable over 1080p. 1080p is basically standard definition by today's standards and 1440p will be more rewarding in the long run.

If going 1440p aim to get G-sync also. However I'm thinking for those games, do you have time to appreciate the eye candy or do you just need the fps to shoot someone before they shoot you? With a 1080Ti and 1440p 144 Hz monitor, I'm not running at the top end of the refresh rates so the variable refresh helps a lot there.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.

A 1080 will not run ultra on 1440p 144hz however the gaming experience on 1440p 144hz (high) is amazing.

I would love to have about 110-144fps but i wouldnt really want to buy 1080 ti instead of 1080,will 1080 be able to run at that much fps newer games with fair graphics

Given how hard it is for my 1080 to run 1440, I stopped using the card. Now I use the card with a 1080p monitor. Seems like its what it can handle.

If I do have issues, it comes down to the cpu being too weak to handle it all.

IDK. Average frame rates are pretty meaningless. And even a 1080ti can't drive modern games with 1% lows at 144 fps at 1440p.  So maybe wait for the next gen Geforce cards before deciding on a monitor.
