The current state of the desktop PC market is appalling.

What do advancements in cameras or mobile devices have to do with the PC industry?

I figured that since companies have manufactured millions of tiny cheap cameras that they could end up in monitors?  Or that many power supplies by now would have a battery that ensured the computer wouldn't completely shut off if there was disconnection for any reason?  Or that power supplies for lower-end gaming PC's in general wouldn't have the volume of an entire laptop.  There are more examples for sure, but I think I made my point clear.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

I just think it's really odd that PC's have reaped very few benefits from all these other tech industries revolutionizing.  I originally thought some of this technology would be worked into PC's, but I was wrong.

That technology brings no benefit to the PC market.

To liken it to cars, it'd be like Toyota adding a second rear axle and changing the gear ratio to support towing in the Camry because that if beneficial to semi trucks.

There are a lot of gamers out there that aren't enthusiasts and don't go on forums like this that would like to build a PC but won't because of one reason or another.

I was building PCs before I was on forums (started using forums at the age of 16, am now 33) and before I was an "enthusiast"

If someone wants to build a PC there is very little stopping them.  I learnt at age 12 and it was a fair bit harder back then that it is today.

The majority of them.  I think PC enthusiasts surround themselves with other PC enthusiasts and assume a lot more people share their values because they surround themselves with similar minded people.  This is basically like Gearslutz.

The PC gaming market has segmented. Those who don't build buy laptops (the vast majority), Boutique, or cheap prebuilt. Those looking for a desktop gaming experience primarily build. The market responded to that shift by offering the options you see.

I honestly don't know where you're looking you don't see them.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

This ^^^^^^

A majority of gamers actually build their own rigs, which is why it's so popular. Just look up "gaming computer" on Craigslist, you'll get a lot of listings for used gaming rigs. Gamers build their own rigs because they learned that it's better than buying prebuilt.

Those exist. They're expensive. A standard UPS is a better solution: it also powers the monitor.

Low end power supplies are pretty small: the fan largely dictates the size.

That adds complexity to the monitor that not everyone is willing to pay for, plus those wouldn't be adjustable in relation to the screen. There's also privacy concerns to that.

Gamers in general or just PC gamers?  Are DIY PC's + Prebuilt PC's w/ a video card outselling consoles?

There are more users on Steam than console, though that comparison is flawed as a lot of gamers, myself included, game on both

That's the point.  Everything exists for the PC.  But they're just not implemented because the consumer has to buy everything separately, whereas with mobile markets, a lot of things are already included in the motherboard.

Yeah but most of them are using $300 laptops with integrated graphics.

I'm curious as to how you know this. Everyone I know that plays Steam games is playing on a decent gaming rig, and I know fair amount of people that are on Steam.

Not anymore. Low end graphics cards still top the charts, but discrete cards have taken over.

Unix.

Forked from either FreeBSD or Darwin. I don't remember which.

Probably because with mobile, many of these things are not only beneficial, but required.

Whereas with desktops, what is beneficial has options, what isn't, also probably has options (just harder to find), but none of it is required.

I'm going to end my comments here.  I made my case.  There's not much else to argue about.  The vast majority of this forum differ with me in their values, and that's fine.
