Is my hard drive ok?

newcbomb

I recently added a 500GB HDD i scrapped to go along with my 1TB drive for my Plex server. It has 2 caution signs in CrystalDiskInfo. Is it still suitable for just holding a bunch of MP4's?

Thanks

Reallocated sectors can happen, uncorrectables are concerning as they cannot be corrected.  If you do proceed to use the drive make sure you backup important data.

You got almost 3 years of usage out of that drive, not to bad.

Agree with Snipergod87. I don't suggest you save important data to this drive, If you still want to use it, make backup for your data.

Part of the confusion here might be that we don't officially disclose drive parameters & thresholds as a matter of policy, so sometimes 3rd party testing utilities need to be taken with a grain of salt. Here's a page from our Knowledge Base with more in-depth info on the matter:

How do I interpret SMART diagnostic utilities results?

We use the first 4 bits of the 12-digit number to indicate the number of errors, while the remaining eight are a 32-bit count of seeks the drive has performed.

For more info, take a look at this thread

We recommend running a Long Generic test from our free diagnostic software SeaTools to get an idea of the health of the drive.

I was just gonna use it to hold non-important DVD Rips for plex.

As long as you're comfortable with re-ripping the DVDs if it dies.  I'd save myself that potential work and get another drive for redundancy.
