4-way SLI worth it for 144 FPS gaming

I know, a single high end graphics card, such as the 1080 ti is already pretty good. But I was just wondering do you think putting multiple 1080 ti's is a good idea for maximum graphiics? a single 1080 ti can't run all games maxed out at 144 FPS, specially at 2K resolutions or higher. I wonder if there will be a lot of stuttering, Ik that depends on the game but what is your experience and do you think stuttering will get worse as you add more cards?

You cannot do 1080ti 3 or 4 way officially, there is very likely a few work around options, however, I strongly recommend against it for a warehouse load of reasons.

SLI 1080ti will easily achieve over 144fps at 1440p Maximum full AA on practically every game supporting SLI if paired with something like an Intel i9 and some quick storage :D

I once did the unthinkable, back many headphones ago...

I split an audio split, again

4-way SLI is unofficially supported, it does require a lot of tweaking but it works.

I don't think so, in demanding games such as watch dogs 2 the 1080 ti barely surpasses 60 FPS at 1440P ultra settings

And idk what the point of the i9 is, it isn't even the best cpu for gaming

The point of the i9 is probably for PC Lanes, but idk.

SLI nowadays is pretty much 2way only... and no you're just better reducing the settings lil bit than stacking up GPUs getting all sorts of headaches from it:

a single 1080 ti can do 1440p 144hz just fine

Yea probably he meant it for the lanes, but for 2-way SLI I don't think it is necessary at all

Yeah I said it can do 1440p just fine but not al ultra settings, or not with DSR.

so headaches are besides the point, is stuttering a real problem with multigpu solutions?

Yes the dude doesn't have his Nvidia Control Panel settings tweaked properly in that video. Main reason being is I had absolutely appalling performance in Watch Dogs 2 with my 1080ti and ended up contacting Nvidia who explained how to resolve it although I've forgotten what they said to change. Now I play it fully maxed out full AA and HBAO+ at a super smooth fps (Have not played it in a while bit it did run very very well from my memory) and its wonderful :D

There is a dude called Xanvast on you tube who somehow uses 4 way SLI Titan X (I think 2nd pascal model) at various resolutions mainly on Watch Dogs 2 https://www.youtube.com/user/Xanvast/videos if you wish to see the sort of results you might be able to expect with 4 way 1080ti

Furthermore for some 1080ti SLI videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/DudeRandom84/videos

Yes I watched one video from xanvast he showed good scalling when playing at super high resolutions hence the question.

But I think he didn't show frametimes did he?

FWIW - with my 6900k, I was running SLI EVGA 1080Ti FTW3's on a 3440 x 1440 100Hz Gsync display, and Witcher 3 with all settings enabled/max ran around 75-83 FPS most of the time. With a single card it was around 55-60 FPS most of the time.

I have not had time to check it with the Titan V's but I'm trying to mod them into fake Quadro GV100's to see if NVLink will work that way, which then would allow SLI-over-NVLink to see what a pair of Volta cards is really capable of for gaming.
